I have a 3 inch lift and am getting new tires soon, I think I'm leaning towards the 265's b/c of the gas mileage, but I have to admit the 285's look better.

boobs... what? I was going to do the same thing but got a really good deal on some 275/70R17 wrangler AT/S's they are a 32.4 inch tire and from what I understand I shouldn't have to trim anything. I havent put them on yet. I guess I'll find out.

I did the 3" lift with 285's, and had to do some trimming...and wheel spacers, but it looks awesome. After reading tons of posts, I came to the conclusion, that if you were worried about gas mileage you should have bought a Prius, and if you like it rolls. Good luck dude.

Does anyone have pictures of the required trimming to run 285's? Or at least what the final outcome looks like after trimming?

    Thanks, Keith

For me, the Tacoma has more appeal as a do-all truck. Can you maintain the road manners while getting a little bit of an edge on the trail? Wouldn't that edge come more from the traction of your tire than the 1.5" inches of clearence you are getting from a bigger tire.

Also, wouldn't going with a 3" lift result in some driveline vibes and more work to maintain the proper clearance (i.e. uca's, chopping, backspacing, new rims, etc).

But hell, if one is spending cash on a 3" lift go for the bigger shoes! May as well get full blown MT's as well.

Yeah, check these out. Some have mentioned trimming the cab mounts, but I never had to do so. I am looking to maybe cutting a little more on the front side, but not as of yet. Also, if you are using OEM rims, you will need spacers or just buy new rims with a different offset. I went with spidertraxx and they have held up nicely.

if you can get them to not rub, i would do 285's. They would look better, and the gas mileage difference will be negligible.

lol those first 2 pics are mine.

If you cut where the red circles are you'll be fine on road. But if you plan to get some articulation off road, plan to be trimming a whole lot more. I am rubbing the cab mount too, but I'm not going to shop it.

I have 265/70/17s on my truck no lift = lots of rubbing = lots of cutting. Will try and get a better side view later.newwheelsntires_ee0ed1cf3d2b9f5123a142dbf3528367c163ca5d.jpg

That's a result of your wheels , there is no rubbing and no cutting required at stock height with 265/70/17 on stock wheels .

I ran 265/70/17 Hankook Dynapro MT's at stock height for 2 years , no rubbing , kept the front flaps too

Yeah, thanks dude! I used your stuff as a guide, and only have the after pics, didn't mean to rob your pictures.
