Does a 3 inch lift remove the TRD set up?

I'm looking around for a 2gen Tacoma. But for my price range I can afford two types if trucks:

1. 2wd w/TRD

2. 4x4 with out TRD

I want a lift for sure. But, is the purpose of a lift only for cosmetic and to make room for bigger wheels/tires? Does it offer any performance?

And if I buy a TRD will the lift compromise the trd set up?

Buy the 4x4 and upgrade the suspension

Any decent suspension lift you put on is going to replace the stock trd bilstien shocks and possibly coils. As well as the stock UCA's.

Buy the 4x4 if you really want it.

 

I have a TRD and the only TRD Off Road thing left on it is the locker. If you're planning to modify, I wouldn't bother paying extra for shit you're just gonna replace anyway. If I was to go back I'd just get an SR5 and build it the way I wanted with ARB lockers. Same price in the end.

 

Don't listen to this guy get the TRD off-road package that way you get the locker. the hood scoops look gay and there only for looks..

get the 4x4, although i like the trd's interior better

 

if your looking for a DD and not any trails, go with the TRD. more options and nicer interior..my $0.02

 

go with the 4x4 and build it how you want it man. its your truck so make it yours and youll have 4wd just in case you need it because you never know what is gonna happen

 

I vote 4x4 w/o TRD. Like others said above, you're going to replace most of the TRD off-road components anyway...

 

TRD Sport and SR5 have the same coils. TRD Models have Bilstein shocks and SR5 comes with Tokiko (at least thats what my 2007 had).

Go with the 4x4 and upgrade as needed for your use.

 

i'd say wait a little bit longer and get the 4x4 trd if you really want it .. no use getting something now and regretting it

 

I got 2009 SR5 4X and saved 4-5k on the price over an equivalent TRD 4X. I preferred the TRD but in the end, I've already replaced the front shocks and rear leafs. Looking back I feel I made the right choice. The only thing I wish I had was a locker or A-Trac. But the TRAC in the SR5 is pretty good, and I can use the yellow wire mod to get that, TRAC, in 4L if needed.

IMO, if you decide you want the 4WD save money and get the SR5. Use the saved money to upgrade with what you want.

300 to upwards of 10000 dollars. It all depends on what you want and how you're going to use it.
