its in the Magna Charta but yet Aussie, English, Canadian(yes i know a handful of people have permits to carry) have for the most part gave up their rights without any fight...its in the mexican constitution too be able to keep and bear arms yet they dont have the right to carry them...so they are over run by the poisoners in the cartels mainly because we have a fake war on drugs...

today I traded away a Glock 19 for a set of X runner wheels with 2 new Nitto tires. Since I only paid $300 for the Glock and the Nitto's cost $329 I figure I got the 4 wheels for free. A law enforcement officer got my gun, so I wasn't worried about the trade.
The gun business is just that...a business and the NRA has done a good job lobbying to make sure everybody who thinks they need one, gets one.
Unfortunate that so many innocent lives are lost every day under the guise of what our forefathers wrote down so many yrs ago. I have no problem getting rid of mine the older I get & how unnecessary they really are. JMO

Unnecessary right up until you need them. This isn't directed squarely at you RebelRoad, you just said some things that I hear reoccuring in these discussions.

I am sorry after spending a couple hours with some Tiger Swan/Xe guys two weeks ago, and hearing their stories of what REALLY happened around NOLA during Katrina, I will NEVER give up my weapons to anyone. All that happened their was mother nature added a little bit of water to the populace and you had cannibals and death squads in America. These guys are not liars and they have no reason to lie to me. All that changed was they added a little bit of water, now imagine if a real disaster happened.

Yes guns are a business, so isn't politics, law enforcement, and even all out warfare. There is a reason why its called the defense industry. The one thing you give up when you give up your rights to defend yourself is you give up your freedom. If you would roll over and give up your weapons to anyone, just because their authority is deemed legitimate, you are a coward and probably better off without them. I will gladly defend you and your family's rights till death because it is what is right, I already did in an official capacity as a Marine. Too bad you aren't willing to do the same.

I would rather die on my feet then keep living on my knees......

I dont bother anyone, in fact I try to help people when ever I can, but if you try to take something away from me your gonna have your hands full.

The question seems to ask: "is confiscation of guns adequate justification for rebellion?" I would have to assume such a step by the government would not occur in isolation, however without a lot of speculation about what other steps might be involved, I must answer that I would hand 'em over. I am a law abiding citizen of this country and arm myself, in part, to support her. For me confiscation of firearms alone is not justification for rebellion.

    Just my $.02

Not for me. As a law abiding citizen who has served his country in the armed forces for 20 years, confiscating my guns is paramount to extinguishing my 2nd Amendment rights. That, in and of itself, is cause for rebellion. Tyranny must be put down whenever and wherever it is found.

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government"

-- Thomas Jefferson, 1 Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Some people don't seem to understand that when you give up your ability to defend yourself, you are actually giving up your ability to secure your own freedom. Last time I checked, our Revolutionary War was not won by simply talking about it.

The first thing that tyrannical governments do is outlaw the ability of its' citizenry to defend itself. And for those who don't believe it couldn't happen here, wake up. The more people that become lazy and ignorant of history, the more likely it is to repeat itself. Some things are WORTH FIGHTING FOR. And our freedom and liberty are chief among them. Our Bill of Rights is unique to our nation. No other has these rights codified in a Constitution written by and for the people... that's what makes us a beacon of freedom to the world. When people around the globe think of freedom, they think of the United States of America. This is not by accident. By the millions each year, oppressed people come here legally and illegally. Whatever it takes to be free.

So for those of you who believe you are preserving our nation and our collective liberties by turning over your guns because you are "told" it's in the nation's best interest, you need to ask yourself a simple question:

What makes up a free nation? Its government, or is it the people?

We are a free nation because our Constitution and Bill of Rights guarantees the PEOPLE the right to change it. What other nation offers such a right? I'll tell you: None.

I'll keep my guns, thank you. And a government that chooses to go down the path of stealing from me my ability to defend my liberties, is a nation I will no longer hold allegiance. I may be an American, but what is America if it is no longer free? Bottom line: The forfeiture of guns would only be the first of many steps toward enslavement. And I will die fighting before that happens.

I respect your opinion, but what, in your mind, would justify a rebellion if gun confiscation would not trigger it? And, having already given up your guns, how would you organize and equip a rebellion to be successful?

Again, I respect your opinion. I was just wondering how effective an unarmed rebellion would be against a heavily armed tyrannical enemy. In my estimation, it would be a losing battle from the outset. At least if armed, your rebellion would have a fighting chance of success.
