Sorry I can't let that one go even if we're on page 5.

Not everyone needs 4x4. If you're just hauling shit from the hardware store to home and to the dump then you don't need 4x4.

My pops needs a truck, but he has no use for 4x4. It'd be a complete waste for him. With good winter tires he's ready to rock year round.

Oh BTW I would'nt trade it in - you wont get the 23k-24k you mentioned. If you sell it PP maybe. Go to Edmunds or Kelly BB and see. Fortunately you only owe 10k so you should have 10k in hand at least.

He did say its for recreation. And lets employ your logic for a second to his situation:

OP proposed getting 35s, a locker, a bumper and a winch to make his truck more capable for said 'wheeling'.

You dont think hes going to go blasting down some muddy trail until he gets stuck? Wake up dude, OP is going to wheel the truck(2wd or 4), so he's going to get stuck.

If he is going to wheel anyway, and is going to get stuck doing so, then obviously 4x4 is advantagious in this situation.

If you had actually read my post I didn't say the OP was in a place that gets snow, dumbass. I said your logic for him offroading with 2wd vs 4wd is the same as the logic people use with the argument of 2wd vs 4wd in the snow. Reread my post you idiot.

Lol well this thread definitely became pretty interesting. I'm still undecided on this issue, but so far the best option I can come up with is swaping my dad's 08 prerunner for my 10', then using his truck as a trade in for a used 4x4, like an 07 to 08 TRD Offroad with 40 to 50k miles on it. Still having trouble finding a good one though.

I say to each his own. If you don't need or want 4x4, don't get it. One of my good buddies (JDKELLER) has a pre runner and can take it a lot of places most guys with 4x4s won't go.

-God, your theories are a little off buddy.

Well it appears to be settled. My dad really liked the idea of the truck swap, so it looks like thats how it is going to go down. We have located a brand new 2011 Dbl Cab SR5 4x4 at a local dealership. It does not have TRD offroad but I figure the SR5 4x4 is a great platform for a build. I can add ARB air lockers later anyway, and am going to be switching out suspension parts in any case. It appears we are going to trade his truck in for the new one, which will then become mine. I'm just going to keep making the payments on my prerunner, but drive the 4wd. So basically my payments stay exactly the same but he buys the new truck for me and swaps.

And at least I don't have to see my prerunner go off to die. I get to see it everyday sitting next to my new 4x4 in the driveway. I did agree to let him keep the wet okoles, toolbox, ham radio, and retros. But he is letting me swap back for the 285's and XD wheels after the purchase. Win win for everyone involved I think.

Again man (I refuse to call you "god" for obvious reasons) you missed the point of his about snow. Re-read his post again.

And in what convoluted logical fallacy do you come up with the idea that having a 4WD for recreation purposes only can only "make things worse".

The ATV is a novel idea... but it's kind of hard to pack the family (or a bunch of friends) and a weekend's worth of supplies onto an ATV and go remote camping. Of course, you could just tow your ATV out there behind your 2WD truck... but, shoot, you know what... you might get stuck trying to get out to the remote camping spot... hey, I know... why not get a 4WD... problem solved!

This is not rocket science... the OP wants a 4x4 for recreation... if that means he want to go wheeling how are you possibly arguing that he should then just get a 2WD? Did you forget to take your meds today?

Call me crazy but if I was in his position I would take the money from the truck and get something that wasn't so new and shiney but more capable off-road. :notsure:

    This is such convoluted BS

Having a more capable truck in an offroading situation is worse than having a less capable truck ?

Illogical Captain , highly illogical .

Reread my post. Your'e fucking retarded.

I don't understand how having 4x4 for recreation purposes can only make things worse.

An ATV can get stuck too, how do you get a very stuck ATV out if you're where a tow truck or something can come pull you out?
