    Hey!

I have a 2004 V-6 TRD 4x4 and it is due for it's 120,000 mile service. I just got back from having a local place take a look at tell me what they thought. They are saying I need to change the timing belt and water pump (should have been done at 90K but I just got the truck 8K miles ago), a major tune-up and the A/C compressor.

While it would be nice to say I can do that work, I cannot. Here are my questions.

It will be expensive: $450 for the tune-up, $750 for the timing belt, and $1200 for the AC.

If I cannot do it all at once, what order should I go........basically, what is the biggest issue?

The truck runs fine and gets 19 mpg. What is the best way to go about this?

    Thanks

^ ^ This. I would add the tensioners to that list, since there is no reason not to do them while you are getting the other work done.

Why the A/C compressor? Is your A/C working? What are the signs/symptoms that prompted them to recommend replacing it?

Thanks for the help. Aside from a possible belt squeeking when I turn on the AC it has been okay. The shop said that when they got it on the lift and ran the engine they could see the pulley attached the AC (????) sease up. They said a small amount of smoke was seena s well. They shut it down and freed the pulley.

I agree with nelson...at 100k on my old 02 i had a coolant leak from a rotted hose that shorted out some speed sensor or something. I went ahead and replaced timing belt, water pump, thermo, and all new gaskets and seals. Cost close to a grand but ran like a champ for another 40k until i sold it. If the AC is blowing cold, i wouldn't do anything.

    ^ ^ Bingo.

If anything, have them replace the belt and see if that helps the "seizing".
