    You have an 03-

Were you in 4lo? It only works in 4lo, otherwise it just blinks without engaging

I have experience with that model :anonymous: I just push the button at a complete stop. Wait a little bit. Move forward slowly. Listen for the click. Then I go play around.

How long can you run the locker?

Nothing 'limits' the use of the locker on the 4WD Off Road TRDs as far as speed goes, except it only can be engaged in low range... and who drives fast in low range (30 mph tops)?

The truck only needs a locker if and when normal 2WD (Prerunners) or normal 4WD doesn't work to get you trough or up something. Actually the 2009+ Off Road 4WDs could do fine without the rear locker because of A-TRAC which gives more traction assist, as it works on the front axle, too.

Soley because of loss of steering control when locked is why the 5 mph recommended limit, a safety concern... Heck, if you can go faster than 5 mph you don't need the locker on.

Both tires get torque with an open differential... The locker saves you when one tire is on a loose surface or in the air... and the other one is still on firm ground. Helps when climbing steep grades with rocks or uneven surface.

Without a locker or traction control, the loose tire will spin and the firm tire just sits there helpless.

The only regret I have with the grey wire MOD is that I didn't do it sooner... probably the easiest, cheapest most effective MOD going...;)

the only danger is do a ton of turning. as it puts stress on the axle because when you turn one wheel is making a smaller turn then the other. But when its locked and you do that it just stresses the axle. If i had one id only use it when i was about to attempt something i think id need it on..

For most of my trailing I don't use locker except for the slow trickier stuff but I do the desert in winter & I'll tell ya its pretty sweet to drop into 4H when I'm 2wd -locked in sand & start to sink in a little, but not for a great distance or real high speed, but I don't lose all the momentum I would if I had to slow to a stop/engage 4L & have to regain momentum
