Wierd yellow material under hood?

    Im guessing this is to keep the heat from the engine off of the hood, but can it be removed without hurting anything? Because I think it looks like shit, so if I can remove it I will. Unless it serves a good purpose.. :confused:

    Helps keep engine noise down. It should be easily removable, I've replaced one on my parent's minivan.

    Did you notice a difference in engine noise? Or not being able to hold your hand on your hood from being to hot after driving?

    Yeah, I have heard various melarkey about these before. My neighbor's Tacoma (pre-01) has one and I was puzzled. Othesr have said noise reduction, but I have also heard fire suppression, like if the engine catches on fire, the plastic tabs melt and it drops down to smother the fire.

    Since I don't have one, I haven't bothered investigating any further.

    That does make since. I might just keep it and paint it white with engine paint. Or remove it completely. :D
