What sucks is my dad has a 2010 Dodge Ram with the Hemi and gets 22-23 when not pulling his boat. I get 18 in the summer winter i drop to about 15. Anymore though I am in city driving and have 265/70/17s on.

I don't know what I am doing wrong...

I just put AMSoil in with my last oil change, new tires, took out secondary air filter and hit my shift points around 2100 RPMs. Coast it as much as I can... don't gas it to red lights... And I drive about 55 miles a day freeway @ 2500 RPMs (usually equals to 72 mph).

I don't do a whole lot of driving while on post but maybe that is what is killing me? I don't know... Any opinions?

BTW, I usually come out to about 300 - 310 miles per tank with about 1/8th left on the guage.

I just added a tonneau cover to my 2006 DCLB and I got 22.75 mpg on a road trip from San Francisco to San Luis Obispo and back averaging around 70 mph. That's the best gas mileage that I've ever gotten with my truck. Before I added the tonneau my best was about 21.5, but that was on a long stretch of road where I couldn't go over 55 mph. As a lot of people have already stated start out slow, coast into stops, drive at even speeds, & keep your tires inflated. Before I added the tonneau I averaged around 18 mpg for both city/highway. Sometimes as low as 16 mpg and as high as 19 mpg. You can probably get your best gas mileage if you drive between 50-60 mph, but who can do that.

FWIW-With the stock 265/70/16 tires, your speedometer (and I assume odometer) are off by about 3-4%. I have used GPS and a friends laser radar gun to confirm this. Therefore, if you are running stock tires, your actual mileage should be reduced by 3-4%.

I recently added 265/75/16 and using GPS, my odometer is now very close to accurate. I have not verified this with radar.

This will reduce your mileage by 9-12 miles for every 300 miles driven, so it can make a small difference.

With my old tires I would consistently get 19-21 with mostly highway driving. With my new larger tires, I'm getting about 18-19, which is probably close to what I was getting before, but the smaller tires inflated my actual mileage.

my best was 21.5, driving very gingerly to see how high i could push it. My lowest was 18.5, stuck in a lot of stop and go traffic.

There doesn't seem to be much that will change it, in my daily driving, outside of towing.

Just got a scangauge and it was interesting to see what I'm getting at particular moments. When accelerating I'm getting like 5 MPG or 9 MPG. Sometimes on the highway with a larger vehicle in front of me I'll register 23 or 24, in the moment. Smaller vehicle merging in front of you changes it only a MPG or so.

Coasting as much as you can, not accelerating so hard, and not driving much above the speed limit seem to be the biggest things.

I just got my first tank under 20 MPG, ever. 19.9. I remember lead footing it quite a bit, and I also used the AC or had the windows down a lot more than normal.

I get 20-22 easily every time.

That is a tad low on the city number, but at least your numbers are believable! It may be the gas in California with ethynol or other eco-nazi crap in it, but my 2010 DC Automatic, 4WD, 4.0 has gotten me 14.5 at the lowest and 19.5 at the highest (on Mexican gas, highway driving). 16-17 if more highway than city... 17-18 highway only in California.

I just added a bottle of Techron (20 gal treatment, $7.+) at the last fill up, and my mileage was the lowest in recent history for city/ highway combined, 14.5 mpg... Which is the opposite I expected after reading someone here who boosts his mileage with the Techron added.

The new car sticker rated this truck at 16 mpg to 20 mpg... It is more like 15-19 and sadly too often at 15. I haven't updated my Fuelly.com lately, and my 'mileage' did drop about 1 mpg when I went to the 265/75-16 tires last February... Yes, I know that the mileage is correct now, and read too high before!

lol i'm not kidding man. I had the scan gauge installed and just went light on the pedal. I stayed mostly in the "big truck lane" and never pressed the gas to pass anyone for about 280 miles.
