ok, here is my question for all of the people here

some state do and dont recognize the concealed carry license of another state

would it not fall under the constitution, under the "full faith and credit" clause?

now then, this is not a political debate on if guns should be legalized, or made illegal, this is purely a question on why isnt it included

PS: i am praying that someone here actually knows some stuff on the constitution and can input, but either way

exactly why i ask this, why would they be able to make it illegal while there is the full faith and credit clause?

full faith and credit refers to judicial decisions ie warrants, judgements etc...a gun permit being reciprocal is an issue of Comity just like drivers licenses the states agree to honor each others permits.

well, that is the best answer i have heard.
but if it is a license to carry in one state, and only some states recognize it

why are all states required to recognize a marriage license?

i have always been taught (by a govt. teacher) that they were required to by the full faith and credit clause

    so thats not right then?

and would your application and approval of said application be legal documents that are required to be recognized?

wow, that was an interesting read, i dont like what it means, but still interesting

i predict that sooner or later it will go to supreme court under this, that will be an interesting court case, since it could easily overturn a lot of laws, though i knida doubt it would after reading all that

I have a CHL in Tx and two things have always dissuaded me from considering carrying else where. First, there are a number of cases of unilateral recognition of another's CHLs. Second, even where their are reciprocal agreements, the laws in the state you are in are applicable. So if I were on a road trip through a dozen states or so, I would have to do homework to determine what the local laws are in each state. Made all the harder because, at least here in Tx, there is not a good place with all the applicable laws are organized in a user friendly way. I mean there is a drivers handbook, but I don't remember coming home with anything other than my hand written notes from the CHL class. My point is, even recognition of a CHL does not mean that the applicable laws are consistent, and given the gravity of a weapons charge, I would never want to risk it.

yeah but if you get a license in most of those states they are actually far less restrictive...PA for example is easy to get a license(no license need to OC unless in Philly) and they have almost no where off limits same with NH.....

Actually, 49 states make some provision for concealed carry. The only state that absolutely forbids CC is Illinois.

Of the 49 states that allow CC, 45 are "shall issue" states, meaning that any qualified resident can get a permit. The 4 "may issue" states are CA, AL, NY, and HI. "May issue" means that granting permits is at the discretion of some governmental/law enforcement agency.

Alabama is an open carry state so if you dont get a permit you can just carry openly...you can carry openly in Cali too but unloaded in cities and loaded in unincorporated areas.

An aside to the topic. While I am glad that many states recognize the Texas CHL, I'm glad each state has the ability to determine how the laws in their state are applied. Let's not forget that the constitution allows for gun ownership, but also provides for states to determine thier own laws, so long as they do not contridict federal laws.

I'm much more inclined to trust the decisions of Texans than those of northern fairies or Californian hippies regarding when and where I can protect myself and my family.

Some states don't recognize the CC permit of other states - what I was told - is because like SC you have to be fingerprinted, complete a class and have a background check done. Other states you can just walk in and get a cc permit. The states with the strict requirements don't want someone who didn't have to have a class/background check done, carrying in their state.
