Potantial 1st Time Tacoma Owner with Questions

I am looking at a 2000 Tacoma with a 5.5" lift, 20" Rockstars (35 12.50 20 tires) and the 2.7 engine with auto transmission and has 120,000 miles. I would like to know if anyone has had any issues with their 2.7 Tacoma after a lift and oversized tires. I love the look of the truck and would love even more to own it but am concerned about the cost of ownership. I'm not expecting the mpg's to be stellar with 35" tires however I am concerned about reliability. It is an SR5 Prerunner model and he is only asking $7,000 for it.

it's going to depend alot on what parts are in the truck. do you know what kind of lift it is? Pictures would also help, and people will tell you what they do/do not like (mostly do not)

I'm pretty sure the lift is a coil spacer, shackle and suspension lift.

Nice looking truck.... I had 18's Rockstars on my 1st gen with Nitto TG and I loved the setup....

 

As far as reliability you are getting one of toyota's best motors. The 2.7's are bombproof.

 

Not a bad looking truck, but I'd think that 2.7 has more than its work cut out for it turning 35" 's. Its hard enough for the 3.4 's to pull a true 33" (or larger) tire without feeling a little "doggy" on the acceleration side. As far as reliability goes, not an issue, the 2.7 is a strong,proven, super reliable engine...

 

there is a body lift on that sum b!tc* as well

 

Its a good looking truck but a coil spacer and a body lift is just asking for trouble. I imagine the rear is on blocks as well. The tires are good and the wheels are just ok, if I were OP I would move on to a stock taco and build it my way.

I think the OP indicated that its already been done, it may not be our cup of tea but lets not pile on him about what he will or will not do...just my $.02....

 

what year wheels is on that tacoma. i cant find rockstars for 2000 tacomas. what others fit and let the hub clear

 

I owned a 2004 Toyota Tacoma and love the truck, but it is going to depend on a couple of things, such as have they converted the open diff to a posi or something (Which is a must) etc

If it is not regeared it will suck on any hills climbs or long up hill drives on the road. typically tHe 2.7's come with 4.56 But you can confirm that by the numbers on the door panel or asking the seller if he has made any mods in the rear.

You can't go wrong with the motor. I have 244xxx on my 2.7 and it is still kicking.

Beacuase of the size of the tires, I would do a thorough check on steering components, ball joints, spindle, knuckle to spindle. (just to name a few)
I would also look at clearence to stuff those tires if you plan on wheeling.
