Idle low and dieing

Hey guys. ever since I got my truck, every now and then when I crank up it would idle real low, but I would just give it a little gas and it was fine and would idle as it should, just under 1000rpms. Today It started idling real low at stops and such and would go dead some times. I had to ride it with two feet (automatic) just to get to autozone. From there I cleaned my throttle body and the maf sensor. That had no change to the problem. I reset the ecu. Problem is still there. I changed the spark plug and wires maybe 3,000 miles ago. Air filter is good. I drove it on to a football game tonight where I had to work concessions. I also knew I'd have some more knowledgeable friends there. We're looking at it after the game and one guy just revs it up real high, he said he heard a pop (I didn't hear it), water spewed out the tail pipe like maybe a half cup full and then it ran fine. And made it back to my house fine. What could that have been? anyone?

 

Oh sorry, I should probably include some details. 3.4 auto, 156,xxx miles

 

theres a sensor on the intake thats like a screw and it controls vac. sometimes it gets to where it cant move as it needs to and causes it to idle low like that. my bro is a mechanic by trade and has fixed many by just cleaning that sensor. my dads taco 3.4 with 290000 miles on it was doing it

 

hmmmmm dont know about the "pop" and the water. but for the low idling you might want to check the cables going to the throttle body

 

I cleaned that sensor already

I looked at the cables, all seemed fine. The cruise control cable was a little loose, but cruise isn't the problem.

 

check/clean your idle air control valve and throttle position sensor. also try some seafoam.

 

I'll check that iac if it starts back up. I'll probably seafoam it today.

 

scratch that. Gonna put seafoam off until it's closer to needing an oil change. a weekend or two.

I just walked outside and cranked her up to see how things were this morning. She cranked up and idled great. better than ever. maybe the throttle body and sensor cleaning needed a little time to kick in...

 

well I finally got the gaskets in for the throttle body and the idle air control. I took both off and got them pretty cleaned up. It sees to have worked pretty well. We will see.

Sounds like IAC. Toyota's are bad about that. Let us know.

Yea the Idle Air Control valve. Sometimes cleaning them doesn't work either. But it's worth a shot. Some are designed different than others. One design has a little ball inside that you can hear shake within it when you shake the valve. If you can hear it shake, you know its ok. But clean it and see what happens. Not sure if yours is that design

 

Hey my truck is doing the same exact thing as yours, usually I give it a little gas and it goes away, but this morning, it dropped to about 300 rpms, and stayed like that.
