    BUILT, not bought...

    I used the one in the plastic tub next to the register @ the dealership (I use OEM oil filters).

    I think the last tub was full of nylon ones.

    EDIT -I once used a fiber one, maybe from Checkers/Kragens....came in the little red package.

    getting there....
    either crushable or as i have seen on the new tacomas.....the gasket/washer was a weird kinda material, but it worked thru 3 or 4 oil changes just fine.............and i think it may have been fiber.

    I think it's a waste too, but I need one between my Fumoto valve and the pan....

    ^This is a good point. Using your theory, maybe we can use the metal of retired Corolla's or Camry's.

    I'm on my third Tacoma and I have never replaced the factory washer on any of them and I have yet to have my first oil leak.

    So I would say whatever the factory uses is hard to beat.

    it comes with one on it.

    I replace the crush washer each time from the dealer and save the receipt. I write down the mileage on there as "proof" that I changed my oil.

    That proves you bought a crush washer, it in no way proves you changed your oil.

    But....

    I worked in the car business for years and honestly if something needs repaired under warranty it will be repaired because the customer cannot prove they changed oil and the dealership cannot prove the customer did not change oil. It ends up being a non-issue and the warranty will be honored.

    I know, but it is better than nothing. I save the receipts for the oil filter and oil and write down the mileage on the them.

    Found this good info on the Fumoto web site that answers my last questions:

    If you are using the Engine Oil Drain Valve on off-road vehicles such as farm tractors and logging equipment under extreme environment (i.e. corn fields, brush areas), it is recommended that a hose clip as shown below be used for extra safety and security. The hose clip, which can be purchased at any hardware stores, will firmly keep the lever in the locked position at all times.

    Q.Does my Engine Oil Drain Valve protrude into the interior of the oil pan and prevent full drainage of my engine oil? A.No. The threaded oil drain plug hole is always reinforced to accept the threaded bolt of the drain plug. Your Engine Oil Drain Valve will not extend past this threaded portion of the drain hole and will allow the oil to be properly drained. Your Engine Oil Drain Valve will let you drain your engine oil while it is hot without burning your hands and it is much more effective than trying to pump the oil out from above.
