Power of the 4.0L

I have had several trucks over the years a:
99 Chevy 5.3L
2001 F150 5.4L
S10 ZR2- 4.3L
F350- 7.3L diesel
94 Chevy 2500- 5.7L 350

I think overall my Tacoma has the most power out of all of them. I am very pleased with the power in our tacos. So what' your alls take. Of course we all want more, but stock is pretty good.

I have a motorcycle for when I want to get out the "go-fast" urges though.

 

Downshifts too much on the interstate when going up a slight incline. Needs more power, or maybe I was just used to my 5.9 Dodge diesel w/625ft lbs and 325hp

 

x2 on the downshifting

 

I'm satisfied but this is sort of an odd question on an enthusiasts forum. Obviously, many of us are into modding which is why we're here and many times that involves adding power. So, I picked "need a little more". Good poll, though.

 

Ye you are to much used to the diesel torque hehe. Diesel for the win!

Here is my idea for the perfect diesel on the tacoma, keep in mind i dont like overkill.

4.0 twin turbo Inline 6. MAKE IT HAPPEN!

 

Yeah I know, but I get a lot of crap from the guys at work when I tell them it has some muscle. Of course we all want more, hell, I want more but unfortunately I don't have 4,000$ to get a SC!!

 

Maybe Toyota will come out with a special edition with the Tundra 5.7L in it. That would be bad ass.

 

More power than a 7.3 diesel? Please explain?

 

^He's probably referring to the whole package, power vs. weight, acceleration, etc. I can see that. Sure, the 7.3 has the torque of a battleship but can it accelerate like a Tacoma?

Priorities, dude, priorities. Your child need dental work? F* em, get a paper route cause daddy's getting a supercharger.

 

I put very satisfied as it has answered the call every time. Would I put a FI system on it...When that new URD blower kit comes out...I just might.

 

Enough power for me..

 

I am very satisfied with the power my taco. I need to only improve mileage a little.

I think thats more of a gearing problem... but yea its really annoying

 

this is my first truck that ive owned but i have driven a few others and i am very happy with what the tacoma has... on the other hand i wouldnt mind more thought... but the supercharger will give me that one day

 

I echo the comments on this page. The Taco has enough power to satisfy me. I would like a little larger gas tank tho.
I tow a 20 foot travel trailer (4,500 lbs). Last year, I have traveled from Washington, to Oregon, over the Cascade Mountains to Crater Lake, to southern Oregon, back through the Siskiou Mountains and back to Washington. The Taco didn't have a problem climbing the passes, I could maintain close to speed limit most of the time (in 4th while I was towing to not destroy the trans). Just the gas mileage was bad (10 MPG).
