Why Entune is going to suck ...

This will be a running list of reasons why Entune is going to suck...

1. Entune will cost $1050 according to Toyota sources.

2. Entune requires a subscription fee after the first 3 years.

3. Entune's GPS navigation uses two databases for points of interest (POI's). These POI's are the gas stations, restaurants, banks, hotels, movie theaters, etc, etc. The internal database only has 1 million POI's!!! I bought a cheap Magellan GPS a few years ago for $99 which came preloaded with 6 million POI's. Toyota engineer confirms roughly 1 million POI's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D08qUirYMM0 That's pathetic! You might think no big deal, but unlike Prius and Camry owners, we take our Tacomas into the mountains and deserts where often times no cell phone coverage exists. Those 15 million POI's from Bing won't be available.

 

How many McDonalds and Subways do you think you're going to be looking for in the desert anyhow?

 

My buddy's truck battery went bad in the desert once. He barely got it started. The Magellan located an auto parts store an hour away.
We had no cell phone reception when this happened and would have been screwed without the GPS.

 

The closest that I have found to being a good factory in dash navi system is the one that Acura puts in their new MDX. It's effective and fairly easy to navigate the menus to find what you're looking for.

That said the best GPS i have used from a function and ease of use standpoint, for an extended period of time is a $99 garmin nuvi. However a built-in system would be nice to have

 

Best Buy still exists? LOL Try the product in store then buy it online where it is cheaper...that's the only thing they are good for
