you said you dont plan to build the tacoma past where it already is... right?

the raptor will far out perform the tacoma you have built right now. to build the tacoma to be close to the raptor performance level it will cost ALOT. and is alot of custom, fab work.

really what it comes down to is do you want truck payments again and pay the extra insurance and gas?

After I totalled my 06 taco, I was truck shopping and it was between a new f150 with ecoboost and my taco now. Now I know the f150 isn't a raptor, BUT its still a full size truck and somewhat comparable. I test drove the f150 and loved It. Off road package, everything. Thought for sure i was sold. definitely more roomy, luxurious I guess you would say compared to the tacos, more power, etc. I then test drove my Tacoma and instantly fell in love all over again. It just felt right. When i was going back and forth, I compared both.. Tacoma: smaller, better gas mileage, better for small technical trails and wheeling in general IMO, dependable, lower payments, save at the pump, less interior amenities, not as luxurious, not as much room, less power. Ford: bigger, nicer interior, more power, still good off road, more at the pump, not as good on small trails, higher payments.

You really just need to think realistically what your going to use either truck for. my main deciding factors were payments, daily driving (mpg) and off road. I am biased though as I had two tacomas prior to this. In the end, sometimes I wish I had the full size with nicer Interior, and glad I have a small reliable truck. It's gonna be like that no matter what you get. It's your decision and no one elses, do what makes you happy.

Raptores = F150's with bending frames. Plus every other problem that comes with the ordinary. Stick with the taco

Yep. Done building taco. No way I'm going to do LT on taco. No one around here would have any idea how to do that and no way I'm fabricating it myself. And no I don't want the headache of it. I'm happy with the taco. Just fishing ideas. Thanks everyone for the input. I'll do some more driving and decide if monthly payments for a couple years is worth it.

And gas mileage... Eh. My taco gets 14-15 at best. But if we run out of oil I could be in trouble. I'm going to have to call Obama and see if I can get access to the reserves. :)

I rented an F-150 ecoboost for the past month and I loved it at first, but then after a month --- damn I was glad to come home to my Tacoma. That F-150 was brand new and it sounded like shit after I was done with it at the end of the month. Ticking engine, horrible clunk noise every time I shifted into gear, lurched like mad when it shifted in 4low, lousy mpgs, annoying overengineered gizmo features typical of Fords. I like my Taco so much better.

I know GMC is coming out with it's own "Off-road ready truck", the GMC Sierra All Terrain HD. I think it's coming out in 2012. Just another option you might want to look at.

    From Autoblog.com:
The four-door 2011 Sierra HD underpins the All Terrain concept, and power comes from The General's 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8. A six-speed automatic sends the 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels. Versus a normal Sierra HD, ground clearance has been increased by about three inches, width has been bumped up to 73 inches (four more than normal) and the whole package rides on 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 35-inch BFGoodrich KM2 mud terrain tires. Off-road performance is enhanced with the addition of Fox off-road shocks (just like the Ford Raptor).

if your test driving trucks trying to make a decision soend a day in a dodge power wagon, you can get one loaded for a little less than the raptor and you get all the capability that comes with a 3/4 ton also a factory hiden winch, and electro disconect sway bar and lockers. i have an older one its a great truck yeah it only gets 16mpg but hell im barley doin better than that in my taco. i use the dodge for work and the taco for my dd, the ram used to be my dd and in almost 200k of avbuse i have yet to have an issue with it. and that 5.7 hemi does just fine for me.

    ^^^ so lame.

"fox shox just like the raptor"... only if they are custom built 2.5" internal bypass specifically valved and tuned for that vehicle...

and what "off road" vehicle rolls on 20" wheels...? i bet the 3" lift is spacers and blocks.

literally the only cool thing about that truck is the diesel... that truck screams mall crawler and douche bag...IMO

Do you want an f-150 or a tacoma... Because all the raptor has is upgraded shocks which you have for the taco. Its up to you.

Stick with the taco, it will have better resale value over the course of years and Toyota's are more reliable.

I've always thought Land Rovers look like pieces of shit...

That GMC looks pretty decent, especially for having 20" wheels. Atleast they aren't 24" massive chrome bling wheels like I see on damn near every full size truck. I wouldn't want to own it though.

Agreed and one more thing. GM will never see another penny of mine and I can get a factory discount on one since my Dad retired from there, pre bailout. Call me old fashioned but I'm not giving the government or "Government Motors" any more of my money than they already take.
