New member sodak here, longtime Toyota owner. I have about 6000 miles on my new 2008 Tacoma Access Cab I4, and really like it so far. I had to say farewell to my trusty 1988 pickup after a crash bent the frame, had over 280,000 miles on the 2.4 and loved it.

I must say, the 2.7 is impressive, and the truck is nice and quiet. I do my own maintenance, and was wondering if there are any other good on-line sources of maintenance and/or TSB/recall information besides this fine forum. It appears I'll probably need to get an OBD2 reader, and am going to try some other mods.

One gripe I do have is that I can't use the key fob to lock the truck while I'm warming it up. I might look into the electronics to see if I can't change that.

    Welcome to TW!

You may want to look into an AC block heater. That would allow you to warm the engine without wasting fuel. Although it won't work in a parking lot without a bunch of extension cord. I would think that you could lock the door, close it, and use the fob to get back in - just a thought. I haven't had to do this yet.

TSB/Recall info is spotty for now, but I am working to get that changed. Stay tuned...

    Welcome!!

Visit some of the other forums for more tech info... (dare I mention)
    http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/f22
That's what I do to look for more tech info.

OBD2 reader - just buy a Scangauge II. You can get one for $149
    http://www.scangauge.com/

You can't lock the truck while the key is in the ignition. While the truck is running - you'll have to use the key on the outside of the door to lock the truck. Do some research on the Toyota alarms & remote start systems. These seem to be a better option plus added security.
A guy on one of the other forums got his truck stolen simply by letting it run in his driveway LOCKED (they broke the window and drove away).

Welcome to TW, sorry to hear of your old truck, I also hope you were O.K. ? It's hard giving up your old friend, I was kind of bumming myself when I had to. I do not know about the lock/warm up issue, I live in a place so F-ing cold, I have to warm my truck up too, never thought that someone would steal my truck, hmm, will have to look into that ! ;)
