So i was taking off a piece of my intake and i noticed this empty spot in the engine bay. Then, i looked up a tacoma engine bay online and discovered that there was a piece that occupied my vacant spot. Just curious if my tacoma is missing something else because it already had a misbuild with the radio. after all it was assembled in mexico.

So i'm just curious what that piece does.
    i have a 2011 dbl cab 4x4 off-road

That, if I'm not mistaken, is the anti-lock brake system controller.

On the TRD Off Road with A-Trac, it's replaced by a complicated servovalve/manifold thing by the brake fluid reservoir.

Kinda strange your 11 doesn't have ABS on a 4x4, dbl, and 6 cylinder. That's just me. Check your factory spec sheet.

    THIS ^^^^

You have ABS, but with ATRAC, the module is in a different location.

Are either of these two types of units available as remanufactured assemblies? Dealer price for a new assembly is $1700-$2000.

Look on the other side of your engine compartment by the brake master cylinder. I suppose it differs by year and by whether your truck has vacuum assist or hydraulic assist.

You have ABS, TRAC, VSC, etc.; that's all been standard on 100% of all tacomas since 2009. The factory can not have forgotten to install the brake ABS/VSC/etc. controller, because there is not a parts configuration for building a tacoma without the ABS braking system.

My 07 TRD Offroad has ABS, VSC, TRAC, HAC, DAC, but not ATRAC. The anti-lock brake module is under the master cylinder on the drivers side against the firewall. The area the op is questioning was left blank on my truck with a bracket and three threaded studs.
