getting new tires ...........again!!

as some of ya know, i got a set of the goodyear wrangler silent armors in p265/75/16. i really liked this tire......as the traction is awesome and they look good. but.............i have been having hella problems getting them balanced correctly ever since i got them. actually, i have been getting them balanced roughly every 2 to 3 weeks. even roadforce balancing wont do the trick. who knows......maybe i just got a bad set of tires. and trust me.....i still think the wrangler silent armors are one of the best tires on the market.

this is what im getting....................bridgestone dueler a/t revos. i've heard nothing but good reviews and talk of these tires. and i havent heard of any balance issues with them either. im also going back to stock size, which is p265/70/16, which may help my truck from wanting to "wander" all over the damn road all the time. i will be getting these friday. basically, since i have some buddys that work for a goodyear dealer, its gonna bean even swap. cant wait till friday now. it will be nice to ride back down the road without the steering wheel shaking like hell.

I had a set of Revos on my F250 I had and they were great tires. On the other hand I had goodyear wranglers on my Jeep Wrangler and they were a POS. After about 1/3-1/2 of tread life used they had absolutely no traction on water. It was like I was on ice

 

i have to agree about the normal wranglers, like the g-sa or the at/s, but the rt/s are ok, and the silent armors are awesome. if there werent any balance problems with the ones i have, id keep them. but after looking at the revo's, i think they'll be alot better as far as on road conditions.

 

got the dueler revo's put on this past friday!! all i gotta say is...........awesome!! going back to the normal size of 265/70/16 definitely helped in the truck "wandering" all over the road(which it did badly with the rugged trails.....not the wranglers, however). and the coolest thing so far.........i havent had to take the truck to the dealership so they can roadforce balance the tires. my buddies at the goodyear place here did a normal computer balance on them, and so far, at speeds up to 75/80 mph on the interstate........they are smooth as glass!! and another note.......it finally rained some here on sunday and monday. the tires stuck to the road awesomely(even with all that oil that comes to the surface when ytou havent had rain in a while!!). im giving these tires , and i would recommend them to anyone!!! also,incase anyone was wondering about them.......here is some info on them...

tacomaman06, I am about to put some Firestone Destination A/Ts on my Tacoma. I was in debate between the 265/70/16 and the 265/75/16.

I really want to go with the 75 series for the little bit of height, but now I am concerned that I will get some "road wander" as you described. I cannot afford to lose handling ability. I will be putting on 5000 to 6000 miles on these new tires this month.

My questions for you: Do you really think it was the sidewall height and not the tire tread or the sidewall thickness (ply)? What was your impression of 75 series otherwise? How different was the look? How did it affect your gas mileage?

I had to chime in. I just put my Revos on last month and love em. It has made big diff in the look and feel of my truck. I was considering trading in my 06 SR5 for a TRD. Now with the tires and TSB suspension, I am loving the truck.

 

What size tires did you go with? They look great!

i think you will be happy with the firestone destination a/t tires. they have some really good reviews at tire rack too. as far as mileage.......i honestly didnt see a drop or improvement either. in all honesty.....it may have been the tread....but as i said, it wasnt the wranglers that wandered....it was the rugged trails. the firestones have a good looking tread pattern, with enough siping for water to travel thru so you dont hydroplane. as for the look, the 75 series is just over an inch taller, and it looked really good. actually filled out the fender a little better. i dont think you will go wrong going with the 75 series. my reason for going back was because i wasnt able to balance the wranglers and keep them balanced, and going back to the stock size, i figured, would eliminate whatever other "problems" were occuring as far as balance. i know one thing.........well,to me anyway, braking wasnt as good with the 75 series as it is with the 70 series, but its manageable also. another thing that makes a difference in tires besides tread, is the weight of the tire, and the compound also. the firestone destinations have a compound that isnt super hard, so you shouldnt have any balance problems either. sorry this was so long, but i had to try and explain it right.

I had the Destination A/Ts on my 94 Suburban 4x2. They were unstoppable tires in the snow and ice on I-70's mountain passes in Colorado. I would drive back and forth from Glenwood Springs to Denver all winter long until they closed the pass.

That settles it then... I am going to call and order my Destination A/Ts today.

i went with blackwalls out,like i had with the wranglers. looks pretty cool on my silver that way, jmo.

 

I like the white out on my truck, but when I get bigger tires and maybe paint my wheels, I think I'll go in.

The destinations are awesome and reasonably priced too. Never hydroplane, kick ass off road, look good, wear well, I could go on and on. I'm probably going to get those in a 265/75/16 or 285/75/16 in the spring. Just havn't decided which size yet.
