have a question about prerunner and Bilstein 5100's

I have a 2000 Prerunner. I thought i read somewhere that the Bilstein 5100s wont work? Mine has a spacer lift on it and i believe the stock springs and struts. Im looking to replace all 4 and get new springs just want to make sure i can use these... i also believe i read something about not on a 5 lug but you can on a 6 lug is this true?? Any help would be.

 

5100's won't fit 5-luggers but will fit Pre-Runners since the suspension is the same as that on a 4x4.

 

alright that is what i thought. will all new stuff around make a difference in ride quality cause right now it rides worst than my lifted silverado with the torsion bars cranked and a aal in the rear lol

 

Yup, I just replaced all my shocks a couple months ago on my 02 prerunner

 

Yes, at least they made a big improvement on my 2nd Gen. It does the same thing as the spacer lift, pre-loads the stock coil, but the 5100's are valved better than stock shocks to control what is essentially a stronger coil. It should be a nice ride quality improvement for you.

Actually, what spacers do you have, spacers set on top of the strut or spacers that preload the coil?

Personally, I'd say better but you can now lose the spacers up front all together and replace them with 5100s. Spacers that sit on top of the strut and space the whole strut down can cause issues (at least with 2nd gens) and can lead to the strut breaking in some instances.

Now you just have to get rid of those rear lift blocks and you'll be all set

 

alright so will i not be able to compress the springs for the strut my self? and i will be to acheive the same lift out of the billies vs the spacer? Im hoping it will greatly improve ride if not i might just leave spacer and put a aal in the rear get a little more lift lol

 

You'll need a spring compressor but if you're comfortable using one there's no reason you can't do it yourself. Cheap compressors can be a lot of fun to work with though...

How big is your spacer now? The Billy's are adjustable to an extent. I believe 1st Gens can be set at 0, 1.25 and 2.5" of lift. The spring will still be preloaded so it will still be stiff but you'll now have a shock that can dampen the stiffer spring.

 

you can also rent spring compressors for free at O'Reily's/Kragens, and most other auto parts stores, probably, too.
