i do not like people working on my truck

Since I do all my work myself I hate when I have to get it aligned or something like that and other people work on my truck and drive it. Anyone else like this? I guess its just if I work on it myself I know what's been done and what has not been done. Just my thoughts

 

Tons of people are DIY guys. It's amazing what some people accomplish in their garages.


then theres people like me. Some mechanical prowess, but overall mentally disabled.

 

Are you kidding................can't even get a burger made right from the fast food chains, much less get something done right that actually requires some knowledge and common sense.

 

I hear ya. I do everything myself. Except alignment because of the necessary tools. Though dwreck and i tried to align my truck with a level and a trawl. Lol. Didnt work out to well. Im even a diy'er on other peoples vehicles. Spent this weekend working on this.

I definitely know what you mean about other people working on your truck. I am the same way to an extent, but if I know that if it's at a reputable shop, then I usually have the peace of mind knowing that it's in good hands.

What I am particularly anal about however is when other people drive it, as greedy as it sounds. I don't know why, I've always just been that way with all the vehicles I've ever owned. I guess I just want my vehicles to be driven a certain way, my way, and always makes me uncomfortable for some reason when other people do because I don't always like their driving style.

 

Do what I do-first off any mechanic can see when I roll up how much I care for my truck. Second-sort of elude to how much you know your truck and establish an understanding with the guys who handle your truck. 99% of the time they respect that because they deal with way too many people who could give a crap about their vehicle.

BTW: what re-call stuff were you getting done? i'm curious what i'm missing out on...

 

Not a fan either. Every time I take it in for an alignment the techs grease either the arm rest, or plastic floor board on the door.

 

I have taken my truck to the shop for three things scince i got it (2) alignments (1) oil change "f*ck that budbuilt in a foot of snow." I would feel comfortable taking it to toyota because i know one of the techs i would specifically ask for him. I just cant justify spending the $$$ when i can do it myself.

 

Speaking of this, I'm getting an alignment tomorrow. Only time I let others work on my truck is for warranty work or the prepaid maintenance (got from prev. owner) and alignments which I have no clue about on IF/RS.

 

Don't forget the smudged black steering wheel and readjusted seat...

There seems to be lots of DIYers on this forum. I do as much as I can in my garage at home and unless its something specialized, I'll head to a shop somewhere.

I like the feeling I get after accomplishing whatever repairs. On top of that. The costs savings are incredible. A few cold ones and the job gets done.

 

I wish i could do an alignment myself... I have gotten three in the past year and twice my wheel has been far from centered. I brought it back and they failed once again. So i just took the wheel off and centered it myself... Should not have to happen.

 

OEM Warnings generally don't swear at you, either... lol

 

Try "greasing" whatever part they will be working on with old dog poo.

^then you have dog poo on your seat... Seems like the joke is on you in the end anyways. I just put antisieze under the door handles off all the cars parked in the employees lots

 

DIY'er here too. I try and do anything myself, and If I cant get it done... I get my buddies to help...I do have a trusted mechanic as a back up. I generally dont trust mechanics...especially those that work at places like tire kingdom that get paid minimum wage (or close to it) and dont give a fuck about their work...and your truck.

Its funner and MUCH cheaper to do things yourself. Just invite a couple buddies, get a case of coors light, and go at it.

 

I feel the same way about lots of things. That's why I do my own dentistry work.
