I really want to get a supercharger but have heard about a lot of problems with them and the timing, transmission ect.

So I want to hear from you guys with them. How do you like it? have you experienced any problems? is it worth it?

I have a 96 so what kind of upgrades do I need before I even install it I know its supposed to be for 98+ only......

its automatic, what tranny upgrades are suggested/needed and any Idea how much they would run? or if I could do them my self? I have done a lot but never had to mess with an auto.

    Thanks ahead of time!

You cannot supercharger pre-97 unless you swap ECU/harness from 97 and newer.

The factory ECU only allows for 7 degrees of timing retard. As a result, High gear/low RPM and full throttle will result in detonation (pinging). You can minimize this by running 1 range cooler sparkplug and force downshifting before going WOT, but still noticable. The single best solution is to purchace the URD 7th injector kit (or the 6 larger fuel injector kit if you have EGR). The PCU allows you to advance or retard timing beyond the factory allowances across the rpm ranges.

I can't speak to the automatic transmissions. I firmly believe that automatic transmissions are the downfall of modern society.

This but don't buy the 7th injector kit. Buy the 6 injector upgrade. Thats what I run and it is WAY better. adding the 7th helps but having 6 larger injectors is a lot better and you wont have the high rpm lean out with it. Also I have a manual so i can't help with the tranny stuff. Custom Tacos should have more info on tranny upgrades

Alright now I'm confused. I called Gadget and specifically asked him about this. He says do not bother with the 6 injector kit unless you have too (EGR). The 7th injector is easier to tune (shut on/off when you want, adjust fuel rate, etc), provides a better seal between the supercharger houseing and rotors, and its a hell of a lot easier to install than replacing all 6 injectors.

Automatic transmissions ruin a lot of the fun of a S/C.. believe me.

I have one sitting in the garage waiting for the cash for the 7th injector before I install it. Talked with Gadget and from what I have read up on that is the way to go on my '04.

Well if you think about it...all the 7th injector kit is...is like a meth/water kit that us supra turbo guys get to help gain 50hp and help protect our motors. If you really want to unlock it and have a great tuning piggy back(like a MAFT pro) then get bigger injectors too. More of a pain in the ass?? yea sure. But worth it.
