Terrible, terrible news, my bfs dog is dying, he hasnt eaten in 5 days, maybe just a few nibbles here and there, hes tried giving him all kinds of stuff and he still wont eat it, and now he told me that tommy threw up last night.... :( im so sad, i dont know what to do for him, and he lives far away so i cant physically be there for him.

it makes me even more sad because tommy is like my dane sampson that i had that passed. :( i dont know what to do for him i feel so bad. he told me he might take him to the vet tonight bc he doesnt want tommy to suffer :(

Take him to the Vet? He hasn't already taken him to see what's wrong? Promise your boyfriend "anything" if he'll take his kid to the vet and let them start doing the test to find out what is wrong. It's not just a dog it's a life. Something that eats, bleeds and breathes like you and me. The dog is dependent on him to help and take care of him....then let us know what is going on...

ok calm down, hes been to the vet A LOT in the past month maybe two, i didnt want to go into detail about going to the vet to be put down, i was trying to put it in a nice way. of course hes taken his dog to the vet hes not a negligent owner, he loves that dog a lot.

the vet told him he has a growth in his urethra sp? or prostate and he was having trouble urinating, but he got better with that, but now his leg is shaking all the time, i think its something near his nerve to cause that because hes having trouble getting around, he was getting around almost fine last month when i was out there visiting but hes gone drastically down hill since then. and now hasnt been eating the past couple days.

Sorry I should have known if a post was made here no one was being neglected. Take him to the vet made me think he hadn't seen one. In any event maybe a different Doctor for a second opinion but if he's happy with his care there may not be alot he can do. I would think a blood test would show cancer but I'm not trained in the DVM field. I'm sure everything that can be done is being done. Please make a post if there is anything that can be done....

I was looking for advice on how to help my bf cope with it, not about the care of tommy, hes been extremely well cared for, my animals are cared for better than i care for myself. tommy is on meds right now for the growth, that why he could urinate better but now hes developed other problems and rapidly declining. I think hes 7 yrs ols

thank you, i told him to get a second opinion, but he says that he trust that vet and has been good to him in the past, so unless the vet tells him today if theres anything different we can do everything has been done. and i know its not good for him to go that long without eating. weve tried all kinds of different dog food to get him to eat, even went out and bought him his own salmon to eat, and he ate some, but didnt want any the next day and that was 5 days ago. he got some roast beef in a can for him too and tried sticking little bits in his mouth to try to incourage him and he said it looked like tommy was eating then saw tommy spit it out. hes drinking water still though, but we dont know what else to do. so he just loves on tommy as much as he can to try to make him happy.

When it's decision time tell your bf to put himself in Tommy's shoes and ask what he would do then. For myself i don't want to live the end of my days all sedated and medicated if there is no hope for recovery. Let me go! I'm sure Tommy is counting on those who love him to make the right decision for him. No more pain...no more suffering! It's the final act of love we can give...and whatever happens don't keep him alive so you will feel better...I did that and regret it to this day....

Yeah he knows, and I know he wont do that to tommy no matter how much he loves him, he wont let him suffer like that. He on pain meds so im pretty sure hes not feeling any pain. Except for the now hunger pains possibly but he just seems to have no appitite, he got all excited when he saw the new food but then just did want it. He was gonna take tom last night when he got off work but it looked like he was doing a little better since he went potty and looked like he was eating some till he spit it out, and he threw up last night and this morning, so i think he taking him tonight. it just hurts me i cant be with him, i know its going to break his heart. especially loosing a dog like that, the ones with more than a dog personality ya know, his other dog denali, she has a dog personality, but tommy doesnt.

I know exactly what he's going through... went through it earlier this year with Ollie. I didn't want to let her go, but it wasn't fair to keep her when she was obviously in pain, not eating, just drinking and throwing the water back up. Tell him sorry he has to do this. :(

wow, thats sounding like its what he has to do, he said it was just pretty much froth when tom threw up (which would just be water and stomach acids) hes not in obvious pain, but hes not eating and is throwing up some now, im not there so i dont know exactly, but its gonna suck when i tell him.:( and he has to do/go through it alone i cant even give him a hug, it makes me so sad.i cried for a month or so when i lost sampson.

I'm sorry to hear that :(

A friend of mine just went through this on Monday. It was the best thing for the dog (he looks almost like mine). Very sad but I like to believe they wait for us--at least I hope so.
