The fishing is def better in fl. When I lived in st.pete I fished every day but I only fished the ocean. Usually caught 2 nice grouper that I would keep and have for dinner everyday. I cast netted so I didn't even have to pay for bait. I caught the usual fish too: puffer fish, stingrays, flounder, catfish, and gar... I am sure that I forgot some........I caught a 35lb carp...........biggest fish to date is a 65 lb swordfish out of Islamorada this year!!

My dad moved us down here in 1963. He lived to fish and play golf. I never liked golf but still love to fish to this day.A lot has changed in Fla. in almost 50 years. But folks still come from all over the world looking for the BIG one.. Jim

7 days and counting till Bass season around here.
There are lots of small lakes and ponds around here. I love throwing the jon boat in the back of the Tacoma and heading out in the mornings. In the calm small ponds, I have good luck with top surface poppers as well as artificial worms rigged Carolina style. I also fish in large lakes in the motor boat, the waters are too choppy for top surface lures, so here, I use rigged real worms, rigged artificial worms and mid level lures.

I love the ponds out here, most people just fish them for stocked trout and cat fish, very few people take the time to fish for bass so when you do, they aren't timid about artificial lures, and they are usually no less than a pound.

A good mid level lure (depending on water depth) is the Rapala SR7 (Deep runner) it will run about 7-11' they have a pale white shad lookin' one, always catches fish for me.

Small ponds are where the bass are in my area. I normally use a carolina rigged' black worm with a pink "flutter tail" on the end and fish the edges. Works out everytime.

I absolutely love small pond fishing with a buzz bait or popper right after the sun has gone down. The water is like glass and you just know those lures are making those fish go insane. Then you hear the sound of victory.
