If the Tacoma does not have enough caffeine for you, then perhaps the Raptor is more your cup of tea.

I say go for the Rapture.

If money was no object, I would build a Raptor vs a Tacoma if I wanted to run high speed desert stuff...

The below is from a "Super Moderator" on this Raptor site --> http://www.raptorforumz.com/showthread.php?t=14208

Below is the text of his posting on bent frame & bed alignments problems:

" ... So, I took my truck to the dealer last week for service and to have them look into this issue. They had my truck for 3 days, and gave me a loaner in the process. They had it sent to the body shop for analysis, and they returned it saying there was no adjustments to be made. They called 3 days later and told me to come look at my truck, they wanted to go over a few things.

So I arrived, and walked back to the service bay, where they had my truck on a lift. The tech commenced to show me EVERY scratch on the underside of the truck, scratch on the skid plate, scratch on the rear shock protector, etc, etc. Finally, I said "I GET IT... What are you getting at? I didn't come here to have my scratches fixed under warranty".... He said, "Well, it just looks like you drive your truck pretty hard..."

At that point, I came unglued, and was highly irritated with the guy. I asked for him to show me what qualifies as "hard" use, and how that is judged? A few scratches? Aside from that my truck has NO damage, no actual dents or body damage, clean front to back.

I then invited him to come inside with me, visit www.ford.com and watch how they drive the Raptor in their advertising and "Design" videos promoting the Raptor. They are professional drivers, I'm an average guy... I do not, and simply CAN NOT drive like they do in those videos...

So, I was given a customer care number to call, as the dealer says there isn't anything that they "know of" that they can do for the issue. They're not saying I'm not covered, they just have no idea what to do. So I called the rep, and was called back 3 days later. That's where I'm at now! I've been asked to provide more detailed pictures of the issue, as well as other trucks that have had this happen since I mentioned that this is NOT an isolated incident as we are coming to find out.

On a side note, this is NOT just a results of trucks that ran on the Raptor Run a few weeks ago, I think this is just the first time an entire group of guys that actually took their Raptors out and drove them as advertised, were able to share their findings on the same day... and we realized we have an issue on our hands! ... "

    .

Now my 2 cents and commentary ... It is hard to take any OEM truck and do all the stuff that Ford wants to do with this truck without any damage. It would cost an additional $20K+ (from Ford) to really mod this truck to do this stuff without damage.

We used to build special chassis' for the military and other specialized goodies and when you want to build mass production vehicles that do this stuff (that Ford says) and won't break or bend ... it costs a lot more than a stock OEM Raptor. Fords are good trucks, but in this case, the Raptor was waaaayyy oversold on what it could do without damage and warranty nightmares for Ford. The above Raptor thread is very big now and you might want to read through it first.

Off-road ready trucks don't come with rear blocks. Period.

you will bend your frame on a LT taco with out it being boxed too... all you need to do is box the frame and your set!

go with the raptor if you have the cash. or build your truck. up to you

very true. the raptor is not 100% good to go straight off the lot... but for what 90% of the people buying the truck it is pretty damn close... a whole hell of alot closer than a tacoma is.

drop about another $1000-1500 and you'll be able to bash the shit out of the raptor pretty dang good and everything will be fine.

when spending $50K+ on the truck... what's another $1500...?

really what makes the truck so unique is the concept of buying a truly "off road ready" truck that has parts to back it up... not just stickers like toyota offers...

I'd rather have your LT 1st gen over a new Raptor. Your Taco is unique, and built with blood sweat and tears!

My buddy has a raptor. I think they're pretty cool trucks. The sync (or whatever system is called) is pretty terrible. If you can opt out of that, I would recommend it. Otherwise, it rides nice...get whichever is more pleasing to you to drive and look at.

well i would say keep the Tacoma. I just went off roading with my buddy this weekend and he has a Raptor. dont get me wrong its a nice truck and all for what they did with it but it really just seems like a show truck to me more than anything. everything his truck did on the trail i did in my truck. some of the area that he had to go slower in cause of the size of his truck i went through in no time. Granted i know his truck could have done way more than what my could have. Both are good truck but i will always say Tacoma, so really it comes down to what you like and want to have.
