Ive heard that Europe has a 4 cyl diesel motor available for tacos.

Does anyone know why that isn't offered in US?

But to answer your question...I think Toyota has done plenty of research and doesn't want to spend the $$ to get the diesel certified for use in the US or something like that

I was told by someone at Toyota when I asked them if there would be a diesel engine in the near future...

"No diesel yet but diesel will be the future of trucks due to upcoming federal fuel mileage regulations."

so take that what you will... most likely yes there will be a diesel version...

BUT, it will be quite a while before we see it here IF we ever do.

Wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with both versions... regarding mpg issues anyway.

TRD wheels, BFG tires, factory installed option.
There was a diesel engine in the U.S. in the small Toyota P/U, around the late 80's. However, if you recall, most diesels, of any brand car weren't very popular. American or foreign.

i'll take the barely more expensive gas for the better mileage and range. it never was about performance for me (well, for torque it is).

This has been beat to death, and as whippersnapper said, don't hold your breath.

I actually like the existing 4.0L in the Tacoma's, but it will be even better once they drop the Dual VVT-i in it.
