i lost my keys to the taco, with business the way it is now it would probably be cheaper for me to go ahead and replace the key rather than wait to tuesday to find it.

if i lost the key would i have to replace the ignition to get a new key, if so how expensive/hard is it, or can i go to toyota or a key shop with my registration and ID and get one made? its an 02 taco 4x4, AT, Sr5

Try taking your vin and title to the dealer they can make you a key based on your vin. Not toyota but Chevy dealership did it that way for our Tahoe

If your locked out and have an access cab, give the side window a couple smacks and if ya do it right the latch will pop open and you can reach in and open the door  it's worked for me a couple times!

Take your license, registration and even the title if you hold it to a Toyota dealership and they will make you a key. I just had 4 keys for me and the parts guy did it for free. Screw paying a locksmith $200....it's completely unnecessary.

There is no transponder in the key, so you should just be able to get a regular old key cut for it using the VIN at the dealership.

You can get a key cut at the dealership based on your vin. They can make you a key minus the remote and starter interrupt.
Then you can make sure it's not inside the truck for cheap:)

It was just the fact that you can get keys cut for $4 at the dealership with proof of ownership. I had 4 keys made for free...the parts guy must have been in a good mood that day.
