My '04 1st gen came stock with the Rugged Trails. They weren't the best tire for icey roads or off-roading. I wouldn't say they were horrible, but they were average. As for wearing out quickly? I got 72,000 miles out of mine before replacing them so I have trouble believing people saying they wear out quickly based on my experience with them.

That is freaky weird! I always keep the tires propery inflated and rotate them every 5,000 miles. I can't imaging that tire physically being safe over 40,000 miles. Of course, I do spend a whopping 5%-10% off highway... I wish it was more.

I had 3 new Off Road Tacomas, and all 3 came with the Rugged Trails... If you actually keep them over 30,000 miles you will probably have a flat a month! The tread is so thin by that point, the tires beg for flats to happen! You must drive on streets made of cotton?

On Tacoma #3, after 3 BFG failures between 13,000 and 19,000 miles, I retired them for the Hankooks at 20,000 miles. I am now about to reach 30,000 miles and am so happy with the Hankooks so far.

I had them on my 07 and loved them. I have Cooper Discoverer stt's now (mud tire) and I like 'em but once I can get rid of them I will be going back to the BFG's. Also...the cooper discoverer st is a good at. I had them as well!

I had 18,000 miles on my truck and the tread was more than 1/2 gone. Not to mention the tires developed major cracking between the tread (which allowed me to make a warranty claim and get new tires).

Well, sorry guys, but I speak the truth. I live in the Boston area so we see a lot of mixed weather. The roads here are among the worst I've seen in the country. Surely many of you have heard of the "Big Dig". A road construction project that even today is never complete 15 years in. Pot holes galore!. Off-roading, towing my boat up slippery ramps. I never felt the tires to be unsafe until I got more than 60k on the odometer.
Again, I'm not saying they were great tires or anything. Just relating my experience.
Now my '10 DCSB with those POS Dunlop Grandtrek AT20? I have 20k on this new truck and they appear to be more than 1/2 worn. Worst stock tire I've seen in a long time. I'm buying new treads next week.

i run them at 45 psi when i'm on the road and lower them to 35 when i go offroading. they have been nothing but good for me but i have only had them for the one summer so we will see when winter hits. i have talked to lots of people about them and it seems the best thing is to rotate regularly and you will get lots of life.

Have you noticed the sidewall of the Rugged Trails? There the MAXIMUM tire pressure is given... 35 PSI. In addition, in the door jam of the truck is the RECOMMENDED pressure... Mine was 29 PSI front, 32 PSI rear. Are you going way above the maximum and the recommended tire pressures just to get as many miles possible or do you have a death wish?:confused:

Thanks for your concern David K but the all-terrains have a rating of 80 psi writen on the sidewall. Also when i got them installed the tire shop said to run them at 40 psi. But I did look on my door and it says 29psi! Front and back Wow that's low. Well maybe I'll lower them back to 40psi but there is no way I'd run 29. That would be for a lower side wall there is no way you cOuld run a 235/85 tire at that on pavement maybe on dirt but I'd be to scarred to roll it off the rim going around a corner. But I'm not a tire profetional by anymeans.

    Thanks for the continued replies.

I've got almost 50k on my stock Rugged Trails. They aren't the best performing tire but they've lasted, and I'm TERRIBLE about rotating. I'll be correcting that with the new set, though. They're really low on thread right now. Four months ago they were 9/32. Getting new ones is top priority.

I'm leaning toward the Terra Grapplers based in looks, price, and reviews. The BFG's are just too expensive when there are good alternatives out there.

Anyone have a personal review on the Terra Grapplers?

Again..I won't be offroad much. We get a fair amount of snow though, and I'll be driving 70 interstate miles a day so noise is a concern.

UMMM I said RUGGED TRAILS, which is what the photos looked like to me... I know that ALL TERRAINS are a better, higher pressure tire.

Does covefrog08 know his photos (just above) are not what he thinks they are?

Ummm what are you talking about I took the photos and I know what tires I installed on my truck. Sure it's hard to tell from a photo

Umm, maybe we see different things but your sideways photo you used (and where you said you ran them at 45 psi) is a Rugged Trail not an All Terrain... Your earlier photo on page 1 is showing new All Terrains.

I love my Duratracs. I don't do much off roading either but they have been great in the sand and in the snow. Granted my commute is only 10 miles a day. But I do travel 300 highway miles every weekend May thru Sept. While you do hear the tires its not too bad. With music on I don't even notice it anymore. I liked the aggressive look which is why I opted for them over BFG ATs. Mine are 265/75/16

I love my set. Great ride and seem to be holding up pretty good.

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
The tire pressure on the inside of the door is for stock tires. If you swap to a different set of tires, you have to use the recommended tire pressure stated on the new tires.

The tire manufacturer only states the max pressure on the sidewall. 80 psi is way too much for a taco. Should probably be around 35 for a 2nd gen.
