Good alarm/remote start for around $250ish?

I have been wondering the same thing but since the other thread turned into a penis sizing contest I figured I'd make my own thread.

I want to get remote start/alarm with 2 way remotes for my truck and my wifes car.



I would like pros and cons of systems you have installed or used personaly. I dont want to hear "dont get remote start you lazy ass".

 

I like the Viper 5901. Remote charging is always a good thing to have. None of that battery changing crap. Viper tends to be expensive though. Out of the $250 range. But worth looking into.

Not sure about how the criminality is where you live, but I myself decided to install a hidden battery kill switch.

At least till I can get a flamethrower alarm mod...

 

stolen cars is not a big thing around here. smaller town of only 100,000 people.

what is the reason for installing the battery kill switch? Do you have to flip it every time you get in or out of the vehicle?

 

Yes. The battery kill switch is exactly what it implies. You flip it and it kills any power coming from the battery. Downside is, that many aftermarket decks, like mine... will lose their settings after killing the power completely. That's the only downside I see. The switch is completely hidden on my truck and its even hard to see the battery cable being routed to it.

I only use it if im in a really dangerous area. Its just something to have as a precaution. You should be fine with the Alarm I posted though. Also, I just noticed and it can be found for $200 nowdays.

 

is there not a way to hook the kill switch up to just the ignition? that would be really annoying losing all your settings every time!

 

There probably is, and I will probably change it to this way sooner or later. When I did it, I was in a rush, so I just did it the most secure and fast way I could do it at the time. Just check what wires you need to turn off and on and voila, you got an ignition kill switch.

If I change it to that way ill post a write up, but that will probably be in a long time from now.

 

I actually been doing the same research and apparently the viper 5901 is the same as pretty much everything out there in that category, like the python 991 , and the clifford. let me know what you decide on, because I'm in the same boat.

 

If I am not mistaken, the clutch has to be in in order to start the vehicle (that's what the test vehicle did today). Just get inbetween that switch wire on the clutch peddle and toggle it on and off. That's my plan anyway... today that is.

Yes and that was a biznatch.. couldn't get the remote start to work completely though.. My remote start button will only work when the key is in the ignition, but if not in the ignition the truck tries to start up but just cranks..

I actually bought 2 bypass modulators.. I will probably have taht professionally installed in a couple months.
