I am in the military and of course i am not stationed in my homestate. So my question is if the tint I have is legal in the state my truck is registered in; then can I get fined for it in another state. Thanks for the help!

I can tell you that you CAN get pulled over for it. It depends on the state laws where you get stopped. Each state have different uniform traffic statutes. Some cities even have their own, that are more strict than the state law.

I know that here in Louisiana if your car/truck was purchased in Texas who has no tint law that they will accept that and still let you have dark tint.

It has always been my understanding that yes you can get ticketed for it. But IMO the officer is being a complete a$$ if you are passing through and not doing anything wrong if he sites you for it. Now in you case being stationed there for however long now, IDK? That might be a problem. It sucks, I know.

States vary BUT do you really want to spook a LEO doing their job???

Florida has light/dark rules depending on which windows, NH will not even inspect if fronts are darker than factory.....

This comes down to "How dark is it ??"....Can you be seen at all??? or is it just shadows of shapes ....

If you are driving through a state or visiting a state for a small period of time and you are respectable to the cop then you should not ever had a problem. I lived in PA for 2 years and the whole time I kept my car registered in Florida. Because of tint and inspection reasons. I was pulled over a hand full of times. And cops asked me every time about my tags and I explained to them that I traveled between both states and and maintained a residence in both states. They never gave me any problems after that.

Question is a little vague as to which states. I know this that in California you are not allowed to have anything darker than factory on your front windows. Do people still do it? Absolutely. Do they get pulled over every day for it, no. But I do know that if you do get pulled over for another violation, you better believe the cop is going to get you for the tinted windows.

I've done a few ride a longs with the CHP and during that time I asked them if they pull people over from out of state with tinted windows. I was informed that the CHP will in fact pull over out of state cars with tinted windows, but not specifically because they have tinted front windows, they have to have violated another regulation. But that being said he said they will pull over out of state cars from time to time to see if they are really out of state vehicles or people that just don't want to register their car in California.

Being military I don't know what the laws are as to registering your car to the state you are stationed, but that would be something to look into. Then find out if that state has a front window tint law.

Most of the time cops are pretty cool to you if you are cool to them. If you ever do get pulled over make sure you had them your military ID along with your drivers license that can get you out of a lot of trouble.

One last thing and I'm done (this turned out to be a lot longer than I thought), a lot of state police or high way patrol are held to a higher standard than local LEO. In California the CHP officers are not allowed to have any illegal modifications to their personal vehicles (exhaust, intake, tinted front windows, over sized wheels that extend beyond the wheel well of the vehicle etc.) so they aren't always as forgiving about altered vehicle of other law enforcement or military personnel. As where local PD's and Sheriff are allowed to have all the modifications that they want on their vehicles.

In the end, just be careful and don't be a dick.

At least around here, regardless of what state your vehicle is registered in, you're still expected to comply with local laws/regulations

with that being said, someone who is just passing thru may get off with a warning, but someone who is living (even if only temp. such as military) would get a ticket with a deal...meaning i'm gonna write the ticket and give you a court date approx. 30 days out and if you get your shit fixed before then i'll drop the ticket no questions asked

It should also be noted that i have not EVER stopped anyone for a tint violation except those with mirrored tint

I applaud you for that. I know my windows are too dark, and when (not if) I get pulled over I always roll both windows down rain or shine to try to reduce the stress. But CHP around here will pull you over for just window tint, and the city cops always sign off the ticket for me...without me changing a damn thing.

    EDIT:
My current CHP "Tint Only" fix-it ticket count is currently at 3

Mine are legal for GA, 35% but I always try to remember to go ahead and roll down the window anyway. Bad thing is that I tend to go ahead an get out my wallet ahead of time to not scare the officer for reaching. Bad thing with that is I have to undo my seatbelt. And by the time he gets to the door I'm putting the seat belt back on. This has happened to me before, was surprized he didn't try to ticket me for no seat belt.

LOL, this exact same thing happened to me and Chaddo. We got pulled over 30 minutes from my house on the way to MOAB because of the tint. He was given a warning.

next time just roll the window down, and if its dark turn on the interior light

dont get the info out until requested...just sit there with your hands on the wheel

we dont particularly like seeing furtive movements as we approach the vehicle :)

Isn't there some thing that says all states must accept other stated licencing and regulations. Meaning Texas must accept a California drivers licence. And Ohio must accept a New York Marrage licence. Seems like that would apply here. Or just the fact that one state is basically saying no you can't come here with your home states car.
