do you need to regear with 33's? has your mileage dropped significantly? an if you do regear will your freeway rpms change?

If you get 255/85/16 (a skinny 33) you will not notice much with the V-6. My MPGs did not change. I have not re-geared and defiantly do not need to with my size of tire.

It is advised to re-gear with 33s. MPG and Power loss is inevitable. Its not necessary but will give you what you lose back. 4:10s should be fine, if your gonna run 35s in the future check out 4:56

i have 33's and my 4 banger just fine, even with the added weight with winch and plate bumper, sliders, etc.....i haven't noticed much of a drop in mileage, a slight loss of power going up hills but hey the 4 banger isn't a power house.

Your MPGs did not change at all? What size tire did you run before them?

I have 285/75/16's, ARB bumper and winch. My mileage with a 4.0 v6 is around 15 not a hair over though. I would like to hear from someone with this set up that has re geared and see what their mpg's are? It would be nice to get a little more power, and I even have a TRD intake and exhaust.

    same shit as everyone else
Does it "Need" to be re geared... No but it will help and improve your overall ride quality. You'll notice a difference in 4LO for sure and also driving around in the city. Add armor and you'll notice the difference even more. I haven't re geared but I will once I get everything done. You can drive just fine without them but they will be nice if you do it later down the road. 35's will really need taller gears though.

I run 305/65/17's and haven't noticed any real differance in power or MPG as to running the stock tires & rims {which I do in the winter} MPG's are averaging 17 overall

    what gears would a 98 V6 4x4 5spd have? 4.10s or 3.73s? It has the TR5 and TRD packages.

I had an 08 2nd gen. After market intake, exhaust and headers. With the total chaos long travel kit 33” tires. I can tell you that I definitely noticed a difference when regeared. Not only in power and torque, but mpg. I don’t know if the size of the lift plays that much into it but for sure the size of the tire does.

A regear kinda depends on how you use your truck. I have 34" tires and have not regeared. I don't have time to go offroad so my truck is just driven back and forth to work. The roads where I live are flat and I don't tow anything. If you go off-road, live in the hills, or tow a trailer, you will want to regear. Around town, I typically drive in 4th gear until I get above 55mph. That keeps the engine in its power band. If I ever go to 35's, or start to use the truck differently, then I will change to 4.30 or 4.56 gears.
