2012 i4 double cab, sr5 question

I am ordering a 2012 I4 double cab online from work (Toyota).Never had a Tacoma before. I see there is a Conv. package and a SR 5 package what one would be your choice? Also what are the best colors. Thanks for any input.

 

If you're ordering it, I like pyrite. Don't usually see it on tacomas.

Not sure what "conv package" you're talking about.

 

Have you test driven an I4 double cab?

i think the SR5 package is a MUCH MUCH better idea because it is only $500 more and you get the back up camera and the color coded front fender and overflares and chrome bumper, so to me it looks a lot better, but some people like the offroad look of the black trim.

 

Variable Speed wipers made it a no brainer for me, Plus all the other goodies. Resale value will also be better as well with the SR5 package.

 

My 4 is pretty gutless, I can't imagine hauling around another (what, 800lbs) plus your stuff.

Gutless I don't mind, it's all the shifting to basically go nowhere; in my opinion I'd get an automatic, I think you'd be alot happier putting your shifting efforts elsewhere (like tuning the radio or drinking a coffee); shifting gets old.....quick.

 

I have not test drove the trucks, looking at the I4 for MPG.

 

Lol, it NEVER gets old for me, I'll shift all day everyday in traffic or in the countryside! plus the manual 2.7l shows better Mpg's !! The 2.7 and manual make an excellent pair and you'll be able to squeeze out a little more power with it too!!

Went and looked at some 2011's today, was hoping to see the 2012. Sat in a white TRD and a red SR5. Only i4 they had was a standard cab 5 speed.

 

Definitely would recommend you drive a DC I4 before buying .. even more so if you want it to be a 4x4.

As I said before, it's ugly as fuck. I've yet to see one on the road. If you want good gas mileage get a car. If you need a truck bite the bullet and get at least a V6 double cab PreRunner.

 

Yeah I'm a big fan of the shifting, my MPG has increased so much since my last vehicle its crazy.

 

The I4 double cab I'm looking at getting is a prerunner, the one pictured above is a base double cab (non-prerunner).

 

That base 5 lug dc is.....perfect.

Thats the first I seen a non prerunner double cab! I thought it was just a myth. Why is the non prerunner so ugly with those tiny ass wheels? The 1st gen non prerunners looked way better than this.

 

There's an I4 double cab PreRunner? I definitely would not want to be pulling all that weight with a 4 cylinder but that's just me...

 

here's a picture of the 4 cyl prerunner, they are pretty much identical except for there are no fog lights. A few weeks ago I tried really hard to find one in super white, all the dealers could price me out on one, but they couldn't get one, or know when one was going to hit the lot, they were saying they were getting sold before the dealers even received them. I liked the idea of a little bit more gas mileage, but never managed to drive one. I did drive the nonprerunner 4 cyl access cab, and I'll be honest the V6 felt a LOT better
