If everything goes as planned then I will buy a new Tacoma this weekend. I wanted a Ranger like I had bought a few years back because I was able to get 31 mpg (highway) on a regular basis and 33 for an all time high. After speaking to my brother in law he suggested I look at the Tacoma 4 cyl truck. I have and I like them but I would like to know what to expect as far as highway fuel economy with a 2wd with a 2.7L engine.

I have searched this forum and have not yet found an answer so if it has been covered I apologize.

    Thanks y'all,
    Bart

Been covered, but for what it's worth I'm not getting over 24mpg in my ride on the freeway. Granted I have modest mods, but bone stock I wasn't getting that kind of mileage.

I'm getting about 25.4 MPG in a regular cab automatic with the A/C on all the time and stomping on the gas to get up to speed.

With a 2011 PreRunner Access Cab auto, I am averaging about 23. That is a mix of freeway and city, the freeway traveling on the slower side. Long road trip at 75mph with some hills, around the same as my average.

5 lug, 28-31 on the highway depending on how I drive. 24-27 suburban driving the rest of the time. Worst tank ever was 23.9 MPG (the first tank after I drove it off the lot).

I have an 08 2.7L 2wd reg cab auto 5-lug. It averages a little better than 26mpg with ~75% highway driving. The Tacoma replaced my 99 Ranger 2.5L 2wd reg cab manual. The ranger was getting 30mpg with the same drive.

That being said the Tacoma is significantly wider than the Tacoma, which is nice for day to day driving. The Tacoma pulls better, but the Ranger road better with a heavy load in the bed. A yard of mulch had the Tacoma basically resting on the bump stops and gives it a shitty ride; even at 12 years old with the same leaves, the Ranger did not do this. I will probably be adding helper springs to the Tacoma

^ when you get it tell us how much it helped? I have contemplated and fought with myself about getting one...I couldnt justify it to myself for some reason. Its a hit or miss with a lot of V6 guys and ya well thats my 2 cents lol

Hit us up with a review when you get it

For sure man. They raised the price on it so I might have to hold off since I just dropped money yesterday on gears/rebuild kit. I'm not expecting a miracle from the chip, but at the least more response from 4k-5k rpms.

18MPG in town with frequent 15min spurts on the highway. 09 5lug manual transmission with high profile aluminum shell and loaded with probably 1,000 lbs all the time. I don't pay for the gas, so I don't baby it. I don't abuse it either, but definitely not trying to hypermile it. I did drive it out of town on a trip one time, but can't recall what it got on that trip.

I get 27 in my bone stock regular cab automatic. But I keep it at 55 on the highway and try to keep the RPMs under 2K when accelerating around town.

But when the temp drops past -20F, my mileage plummets down to about 15mpg. Snow tires are aired down and with 3 sandbags in the bed.
