    My son has a 2011 regular cab 4x4 with 4cy. I have a 2011 DC (Prerunner) with V6 and I get a tad over 21 mpg-he gets 16. His neighbor bought a 2011 extra cab with 4cc (prerunner) and he gets 14mpg. A 4cc won't pull your hat off your head. It ain't a 22R for sure!!!

This is not the norm. The only way to make any of these 4 bangers get that kind of mileage is to install huge tires or to constantly beat the piss out of it. And the only way a v6 can get that kind of mileage is by babying it.

I drive it like a 56 year old grandpaw. 70mph interstate 21mpg -got 21.8 one time. My sons has buck shot mudders and the other 4 is stock. I have drove Toyotas since they first came over and the new 4s ain't no 22r. MY 92 4x4 4cc got 25mpg and went over 350,000 miles (still in use). The new 4cc knock and rattle like a can of pennies and is as weak as a v6 slant 6 dodge.

But..it is what it is. If you're happy with a 4 banger then more power to you. ust I can tell you one thing, the old quality just is'nt there on any of them V6 or 4. I wish you luck on whatever you get.

I have a 2011 access cab 4x4 4cyl and Ive been getting about 400 miles a tank as long as I'm not driving like a ass. So I have no idea how those numbers are accurate.

Maybe they just had bad luck. Does your transmission rattle or do you have the auto?

I like my V6 but it seems like the front end is like driving is a good cross wind. My other ones drove different.

God I would hate to have a auto with the 4cyl even with the five speed its sluggish but I'm still very pleased with it. No trans rattle. The only issue Ive had was the blower motor squeak.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
keep the 4 cylinder, mine satisfies all my needs, hauls whatever, and can pull all of the utility trailers and eventually the small Scamp camper i am going to buy, V6 would be nice in some situations but when i fill up at the pump i like what i see with 4 cylinders! i can run about 358 miles on a tank with my truck and it is the exact same as yours except it is a 11. I agree with the others on the fact that having an auto 4 cylinder would suck, with a double cab you can add on an extra 700lbs to that ratio that the truck has to pull around, stick with the stick! lol

My 92 was a 22R and was the best truck I ever owned. I bought a 99 V6 and 2001 V6 and they were ok but only got about 21MPG. My 92 got a solid 26 MPG. My son's 2011 reg. cab 4 banger gets less than my 2011 V6 DC but he has mud grips. He pulls a trailer with a smaller Ford tractor and it does ok buy trans rattles like a snake. They do offer a Dc in the 4 banger but and I could have lived with the 4 but was scared of the rattle some of them have. I am glad they went back to a timing chain and lost the belt. good luck with whatever you get.

I have the 4.0 V6 becasue it's all they offer with the DBL/Off road, but I prefer the extra HP sometime. I had a 2.7 with my 2005, before I traded it. The 2.7 4cyl was a little better on MPG but not enough to make me prefer it, the 4.0 does well.

The old R-22 2.4L were the toughest engines I've ever owned. Before I got into law, I worked with a heavy Equipment company. Our service Mgr. drove 180 miles round trip and had a 1st generation Toyota with a 2.4 - he told me once (and he was the service mgr.) that he was ashamed to tell me he had 280K highway miles on it and has changed the oil about 5x - runs like a charm.,what can you say?
