Portland native with an AC 4x4 6 speed. I love the 6 speed, but that's all in preference. It really depends on which car you're used to. I recently drove a friend's "sportier" bmw 325 and shifting is butter. Going from my taco to my subie, it's soo much smoother and no clunks(subie for the snow!).

You will be driving a trunk, so expect heavy(ier) clutch, clunky shifting. However, do I benefit with the 6 speed? Prob not, I initially didn't like the extra shift but once gotten used to, it grew on me. Never driven the I4, but contrary to what was said earlier the V6 is extremely powerful.

This truck can go from 0-60 near abouts 6.5 seconds, which is plenty.

    Absorb data, compute your answer.

In the end, enjoy your decision!

thanks folks, nice info. Ill definitely take a look at the v6 auto 4x4. although I prefer manual, it is not a must and seems like it would suck in my daily driving ( I spend alot of time between 10-20 mph in Portland). Main issue is not getting stuck in that heavy snow (and definitely not in the Meadows lot like PokeTaco stated!...). Gas mileage, while always a plus, doesnt seem to waver tremendously from model to model. I can deal with 18-20, and I am a conservative driver anyways so think I would be fine with the 4.0.

The 2.5 turbo boxer is nice as well as the full time AWD. Question you have to ask yourself is do you need the ground clearance and bed which Tacoma has? If you do any off roading, more serious than dirty roads, I would get the Taco.
