I'd just go to the zoo once in awhile. Pets can be a hassle (but also fun) but your schedule could be a downer for it. Get the cat if you have a dependable pet sitter, it not then don't get it.

I have a dependable dog sitter when I travel, but could not do it without her. It that or a kennel. I guess they kennel cats, but I don't know for sure.
