adjusting e-brake handle

how do you adjust the e-brake handle? i drove an '04 taco over the weekend and the e-brake handle on that truck was a lot tighter than my '02. mine seems to pull out further and when i disengage it, it likes to hang(still showing "brake light") until i push it in a couple of time.

 

U adjust the rear brakes. There not in proper adjustment causing u to have to pull out far for the shoes to come up against the drum. Take your drums off clean everything with brake cleaner the adjust your star wheel so the shoes go out testing the drum so it just barley slides on by hand. If ur feeling real ambitious take the star wheels out clean and apply a small another of anti seize to threads. It will help them stay in adjustment. As far as the light not sure that mite fix it or there is prob sum adjusting on the switch under the dash.

Your E-brake light sensor connection might be lose.

Crawl under the dash and look at the sensor. I've also heard of the tabs bending on the E-brake handle from slamming them in, so the tab wouldn't hit sensor.

Sometimes the sensor is faulty. You push in the button and contacts hit..but light doesn't come off.

You can just unplug the sensor if you don't care about the light.
If not, replace sensor.
