Thoughts on this undercarriage? Pics

Truck I'm looking at. Year 2000. Virginia/WV/Florida Truck. See any major frame issues or would you guys be content with this undercarriage?

 

The frame rusts from the inside out. Have it checked out by a dealership unless it's already been done.

 

Id say pass. Any rust at all just scares me. I didnt want any rust at all on mine because I plan to drive it for a very long time.

 

as stated earlier, you wont know if the frame is bad because it rots frm inside. other than that it looks average

 

If this were a truck I'd like to own for 10+ years, what would be the steps you'd take stop, cure, prevent future rust? Would you be comfortable doing so with this truck?

 

the truck is 11 yrs old now, no rust is impossible, unless its garage kept any road debris cleaned off after every drive and dried...even then i dont think its possible, doesnt look bad imo, but what is the markings on the frame? has it been replaced?

 

Looks normal to me I touch up mine with a can of Rustoleum in the spring and just before winter I also shove a isolating yard sprinkler under it when washing during the winter to rinse the under carraige, don't forget to rinse the front of the radiator it catches the salt from the vehicle in front of you.

 

ive been trying to find a more powerful sprinkler to put under mine...maybe i will invent one...home undercarriage cleaner. i creep over the ones at the carwash but it never gets the whole underneath

 

Rust sucks, I think this looks pretty damn good for a 2000, i'm no rust scientist though

if you are worried just tap around the frame with a ball peen and listen to it. solid is good, if it goes all the way through, bad.

 

It's possible...the truck that I bought that spent it's whole life in Arizona and now resides in New Mexico has zero rust and no aftermarket undercoating, etc.

 

Thank god I live in FL...all you poor guys that have to worry about road salt...

 

well thats in az, he listed states in the salt belt...you guys have to worry about your trucks drying up and sand getting into places it shouldnt be. each geographical location has its pros and cons, but where he listed almost impossible to find a truck without rust.

 

I live in CT and my frame is 10 times worse and was inspected by dealer and was withing guidelines. Your's looks fine

 

it looks likes you could probably use some new leaf springs

yours look almost flat

 

Looks awesome compared to my 02. Had I known more of the rust issue, I probably wouldn't have bought mine. But those pictures looks damn good to me.

 

X2 I've seen 2nd gen tacos that look 100 times worse

 

the first taco i looked at was a 00...it was a complete rust bucket, everything was flaking off looked like it was 20 yrs old and had been sittin in a field.
