i love metaphysical debates like that. i hate people that believe everything in the world can be explained by science. most things can be but there are so many things that come along with life that cant be explained that its ignorant to put all your "belief eggs" in one basket. whether you believe in God or not is irrelevant, the truth is, science is not the end all be all of existence

Not a very good scientist...

 

Reminds me of the Truth Project we're doing in our small group from church right now, what determines right/wrong, what is evil, why do we have a conscience, what is reality etc. Sounds like it would be right up your alley. Good post!

 

Here's the thing though: Science and Religion are essentially similar in concept in that there are no absolute answers. Science is based primarily on theory. There is no absolute dark, absolute cold, or absolute anything, hence the term- infinite. Likewise, in religion, the concept of infinite is used in regards to explain the unknown. If you're a Christian or some other religion, then the explanation of God is sometimes done so with a infinite answer- aka: he is all-powerful and is all-seeing, etc etc.

The bottom line is that humans don't hold all the answers, never will, and should never try. Religion is a good thing. If people were told they were basically made of carbon matter and would someday cease to exist- nadda, nothing, nothing, then the world would be a very dangerous place.
