    the first oil filter that comes from the factory is a bit tough to take off.
    some people stick a screw driver through it and it helps to twist it off

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    Drain plug screws off. Make sure you are turning it the right way.
    A round filter wrench helps remove the filter. :)

    I was getting the dealership change untill my warranty ran out. Then like a dumb ass I went to the local quick change place. The first couple of times they did alright. But this last time they spilled oil all over the battery and driver side fender. The ass clown that did it didnt say anything just closed it up and sent me on my way. Well about 1/2 a block down the road I start smelling burning oil. So I pull over and open the hood. You can imagine the horror and thoughts of violence running through my head.

    Well lets just say after 15 min of convincing the manager it was in his best interest to refund my money I decided I will never use a quick lube again for anything ever again.

    Thanks for the tip on the filter drain that will save me a lot of trouble now that I will go back to changing my own oil.

    it's pretty easy to do... unless u need a jack to get to the old drain plug..lol... a sign of overweight buawhaha.. i'm just changing my oil at this time drain while i type he he... i too use mobile1 5w-30w but the dealer said i could use 5w-20w and gain more horse power but i don't really need horse i think it's powerful enough.. nice thread thought yah it should be pinned.

    Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
    If you are referring to the rubber cap that drains the oil spilled when you remove the filter, it just pulls off. It is a bit tough to pull off though.

    none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
    Wow. I have the old taco, and the new one has the filter in a much easier to get at location, plus it looks like they put a sleeve around it so you don't spill oil everywhere. On the old one, you have to lie on your back, reach up next to the manifold, and when the filter comes off, about 1/4 quart of oil spills all over the cross member. I'm used to it, but the 1st time I changed it, I was like WTF!?

    For the older trucks, just get a plastic bag and after you loosen the filter, put the bag oround it so it catches the oil. :)

    Just got the oil change at the dealer (since I had a coupon it was cheaper). They forgot to put the cap back on the "port". Will that be a problem? Does oil ever leak out of the filter other than when replacing it? If this happens, it will drain out onto some hoses and possibly the belts.

    I have Fords as well as Toyota. I thought this was interesting if you want to use a large filter.

    The Filter on the left is a TRD filter, supposedly discontinued. The filter on the right is a Motorcraft FL1A (most V-8 Fords use this filter).

    This is a simple mod I did a while make for the oil filter drain cup. I added a small petcock like would be on a motorcycle and a small vacuum line. Then I can easily control the drain of the oil filter cup.

    Except mine has the nipple hose attachment and a plastic cover to keep debris out of the valve mechanism. Harrumph!
