I have not read every thread or post on the subject but I am now going to assume Toyota changed something in 2011 because it worked on my 2008 though it took me a few tries to get it right. I recently learned something else - in a post someone said to check similar threads at the bottom of the page - I must have tunnel vision because I'm on TW all the time and never noticed. Thanks for the reply.

I talked to the dealership today, told me that it is possible to turn it off in two ways with the 2011 model. Option 1- unplug the wire underneath the driver seat and sensor in the passenger seat. The problem with doing this is, Your airbag WILL NOT deploy in an accident. The sensor in the seat is linked to the airbag and will cause it to malfunction in an accident! So, that's not an option for me. The guy did tell me that the sensor can be over ridden in the trucks computer system. He said that Toyota can not do it because everytime they use the computer codes it is logged and they can be shut down if Toyota finds out. He told me to take it to a mom n pop shop and ask if they know how.
I dont know if he was blowing mr off, but he seemed legit.

I would be careful if you plan on unplugging the seat sensor in the 11 models.

When you do that does it stay off until you do all that to turn it back on?

This does not make me feel good about the guts that I ripped out of the seatbelt latch itself... damnit.

Unless you have the white gauges, you're doing it wrong.

    :crapstorm:

Boy these excuses get better all the time.
Can't unplug the sensor. no way no how CORRECT

    It's a customize setting.

Shut them down ???? yea if that was the case then there would not be an option to do it. Your not hacking the system, your adjusting allowable options.

    Boy i love this shit.

After trying the steps and having no luck, asked the dealer while I was in for my "we owe's" (free,alignment/balance/rotation)to silence the seatbelt chime and they did no problem! Just ask all they can say is no! We also ordered the "free" seat belt extenders just in case it gets reset in the future!:D

I have a 2011 Taco with the White Gauge Cluster. The "crack" does not work for it. The dealer did work. Free. Along with a complimentary oil change and service.

For those with white face gauges and getting a hassle from dealers.....has anyone thought about tracking down the actual beeper under the dash and unplugging it? That would not cause airbag malfunction but also would not warn if key is in ignition when opening the door either. Tradeoff. I did this on my old toyota due to not having door pins after a cab swap. Not sure if it's an option here but thought I'd just throw it out there.

No dice on my '11. Tried like 20 times. I guess I'll have to beg the dealer to do it. I'm not going to wear my seatbelt when I launch my boat, no way. This chime is ridiculous! I'll be taking it in for stereo ghosties and the drivers side needle bearing slop soon anyway

There's another thread about this: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/38842-disable-seatbelt-warning-chime-16.html

The long and the short of it, for 2011 models, is that there are 2 different gauge faces. If your instrument panel gauges are white, you need to take it to a dealer. Some will turn it off, others won't because it's a liability issue supposedly. If your instrument panels are black, made earlier in the model year, try this (looks the same as the OP here, just worded a bit differently):

    1. Turn the ignition switch on (without starting).
    2. Press the ODO/TRIP switch until the odometer displays "ODO"
    3. Turn the ignition switch off
    4. Turn the ignition switch on
    5. Press ODO/TRIP switch immediately, within 6 seconds of turning the ignition to ON, and hold it down for 10 seconds or more.
    6. Continue holding the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the front drivers's side seat belt.
    7. Check that the odometer displays "b-on." Release the button.
    8. Press the ODO/TRIP button to change the display to "b-off".
    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Turn the ignition switch on while depressing the brake pedal.
    11. Check that no buzzer sounds when sitting on the front passenger seat.

The chime still dings for about 5 seconds at startup, but stops after that.

My 2012 was shut off by the dealer free of charge ONLY after I told him about the owners manual. He at first refused.
