So i was thinking about taking the rims off, washing them very good. Then using coarse sand paper so the paint can seem into the rims. What do you guys think?

Primer is important. There is a "self etching" primer available that grabs good, and then spray the paint over that. Clear coat over the base coat will also help to protect against scratches.

If you want it to be temporary, plasti dip.

If you want it to be permanent, paint it.

A few months ago, a crackhead (literally) in a U-haul grazed the side of my front bumper. It was enough to bend down the corner under the blinker and dent the chrome. I recieved a nice check from U-haul after fighting with their insurance company, but in the meantime I was curious about how well plasti-dip would look on the grill and chrome strip on the front of the truck:

Then decided to do the rear bumper. I did a final coat on both smooth out the paint but overall I was very happy. I'll take some better pics tomorrow along with my new Copper AT3s.

This stuff is pretty cool. I did a test spot and then pulled off the plasti-dip before I sprayed;)! I wanted to see how it peeled off for myself. I'm going to do my rims this weekend!

 If you are talking about the added weight of the plastidip on the wheels after painting, then it is fine.

The added weight is very very very minimal.

I haven't heard that but it sounds like something to investigate. I don't think the plast-dip weighs enough to effect the wheels in that way. However I may be wrong. Maybe some one could chime in on this?

Plati-Dip Badges & Removed a few, added D-rings in Bed, added recovery D-shackle, Added Front Recovery Hook, TRD Skid Plate-Rhinoed, added 2 mini tie downs, removed rear seat headrests.
You can do it either way, but best to do with the tires off, dont forget to get the inside of the rims too, & then once the tires are mounted I did a touch up, due to the tire machine & weights, the Plasti-dip has no running & blends seamlessly, was good & easy to work with.

    DON'T DO IT!!!!!
The added weight will cause your wheel bearings to fail, axle shafts to snap, and truck to FUCKING EXPLODE!!!!!

Not really, it's not an indy car. The 0.000000000002 lbs of weight added by paint of any type to a wheel won't affect it at all.

okay so im sure this question has probably been previously answered in this thread, but im going to try and plasti dip my rims soon, so i just have a couple questions about the spraying process. for the best results, how many coats should i apply? how much time should i wait to apply the next coat after the last? and how long does it need to completely dry so i can put the rims back on my truck and show off my black rims? im basically trying to find out when i actually have the time to do this lol.

Id say 5-6 coats, let sit about 7-10 minutes between coats. Then let's sit AT LEAST 90 minutes before putting back on
