Stop Lights

I need some help troubleshooting my stop light in my truck. My stop light went out, and I had checked the fuse box in the engine compartment, and the fuse box under the steering wheel but found all the fuses in good condition. Is there anywhere else I need to check as far fuses our concern?

brake lights? check the bulbs maybe?

 

Yes brake lights. I had checked all the bulbs including 3rd brake light and everything checked out.

 

Check the fuse box under the steering wheel one more time, Fuse labeled "GUAG" 7.5a

 

Which light went out? If all of them died at the same time, it's likely an electrical/fuseproblem.

 

If I read that right, you should be looking for a 10 amp fuse in the engine compartment. According to this, the only other thing between the fuse and the brake lights is the brake light switch. I would be looking for power down there with a digital voltmeter. Don't use a test light, if you get the wrong wire it can set off the airbag.

It could also be a bad ground, but the center stoplight grounds differently than the two lower stoplights, so if they are all out I think your grounds are okay.

Edit: looks like there is a relay in there as well.

 

All the brake lights went out. I had checked the fuse under the steering wheel again but everything checked out good.

 

There should be a "stop lamp control relay" under the hood also if you have traction control. I thought that the double cabs all had that? Maybe pull that out and see if there is another relay you can swap it with for testing?

Other than that I think you are going to have to get a meter and start following the voltage check points on the wiring schematic.

 

Did you replace the fuses? Sometimes with the mini fuses they are hard to tell that they are blown.

Brake light switch maybe. Happened in one of my other cars

 

this would be my guess also. if none of em work this has to be the reason
