This has not passed yet, if you are from California, please e-mail fax and call Govenor Brown. Don't complain. Act. Goto the contact info link at:
    http://govnews.ca.gov/gov39mail/mail.php

    This is what I sent:

    Dear Governor Brown:
As one of many registered voters we are seeing too many costly Gun Control bills heading to your desk. You should already be getting more similiar letters very soon. The sleeping masses are awakening to all of these extreme issues.

Please see the following bills that are headed to your desk for what they are.
    SB 427
    SB 819
    AB 144
    AB 809
These bills are a costly way for the extreme gun control groups to harass gun owners at the expense of the other Californians. There are numerous examples from California, and from other states that show that bills like these are very costly to enact and do not result in the inteded result, to control guns.

Each of these bills will be challenged by gun owners and the NRA. With the recent Supreme Court ruling on the second amendment these guns laws will be harder to enact and cost even more money to attempt to defend through judicial review.

Even with the extra Gun Control bills the number of gun sales has gone up, not down. These bills do not help, they only cost us more money that we don't have and could better use elsewhere.

We request that you veto SB 427, SB 819, AB 144, AB 809 for these reasons

    Thank you for your consideration.
    Sincerely,

    Phil

The second amendment debate will never go away, and the CCW litigation in California will never go away either. If one side wins at one level, the other side will file another lawsuit at the next level. If that doesn't work another bill will be introduced and we will have to start all over again. It's a never ending cycle that goes no where.

I personally, being a business owner, am allowed to protect my business with a concealed weapon within my business or my property, and I do. My business is a thriving business with many cash customers. While the neighborhood my business is in is not horrible, it is still not in the safest part of town. I never take the same route to the bank, I never go to the bank at the same time or the same day. I always take a different route home and a different route to work.

I am currently in the process of getting my CCW for the state of California. I have been told by my friends in Law Enforcement that I will have no trouble getting my CCW. God Bless Kern County, we have the highest issuance rate for CCW's in the state of California.

There are four bills, one is to make you register you long guns. The other would make you register the ammo you buy.

AB144 is only one of the stupid bills on their way through. Don't only think about carrying unloaded... think about $100 for a box of (50) 9mm rounds at the range.

I was a LEO for a decade and required to carry. I, like many current and former LEO's, find the issue of open carry laughable. It makes one a target and the average civilian (and honestly, many LEO's) don't have the training needed to properly use a handgun in a tactical situation. If you take the time to go beyond shooting at paper targets and train regularly in simulated tactical situations, then maybe. If you haven't, shoot a few rounds in an enclosed space -- the noise shock generally disorients the amateurs.

Anyone with more than basic unarmed martial arts training could easily disarm most of the folks I see open carrying. It's apparent they are overcompensating for something.

And the Heller case reaffirmed only the right to have a firearm in one's home. Anything beyond that is a reflection of the current political climate. SCOTUS has long ceased to be an independent interpreter of the Constitution. If politicians had a backbone, they wouldn't pander to the NRA's ridiculous stance against reasonable regulation.

With your opinion on OC now known, what's your take on Concealed Carry?

Also, where is the line drawn for reasonable regulation? Does it stop at registration, no silencers, no assault rifles, etc.

One of the most illogical gun laws in Cali, aside from Concealed carry, is the 10rd mag limit. I mean really, a criminal commits crimes so a law won't stop them from getting something bigger [if that's what their crime needs] and 10rds is still enough to do plenty of damage...

at least with concealed carry, you're not as much a target. OC just screams - look at me, I'm carrying - bring it on. I still think a gun in most people's hands is as dangerous for the innocent as it is for the bad guys.

And seriously, if you need half a 10 round mag, you're in over your head anyway. You've been watching way too many action movies. ;-)

If you need to use your gun, I'd be inclined to say you're also over your head... Point is, it makes less sense to restrict it than it does to allow it and not need it.

You may only need your Class A fire extinguisher to fight a lot of fires, but it wouldn't hurt to have a Class C extinguisher on hand.

I for one am not sure how I feel about the 10-round mag limits. At first glance, I see it as silly and illogical for the reasons you describe.

Second glance, I think of the Giffords shooting. (obviously a different state with different laws, and realistically Loughner should have been denied on the grounds of mental instability) But the thing that I come back to is that he was able to be disarmed and apprehended when he had to reload. Now, in most cases, a criminal will probably just get a higher-capacity magazine regardless of the laws, but 1.) it only takes the pull of a trigger to turn a law-abiding citizen into a criminal and 2.) if the only thing available to a criminal is 10-round magazines, that gives officers and others more opportunities to respond by forcing greater frequency of reloads.

So I'm on the fence on this one. Idealism tells me that if a person is going to carry, they should presumably have practiced with their firearm and have a solid grasp of shot-placement and situational awareness, thus limiting the need for a hi-cap mag. Which then makes the law just an annoyance for recreational shooters who hate having to swap out every 10 shots. Annoyance people can deal with.

Logically, though, I understand that in a decent number of cases, the bad guys are going to have hi-caps anyway. I also realize that in the adrenaline of the situation, people defending themselves have a tendency to fire haphazardly. So I guess the moral line is drawn somewhere between allowing a defender to return firepower on par with the attacker and limiting the amount of bystander and collateral damage from stray rounds.

I'm not sure where I fall in that debate. Overall, I think the less bullets in the air the better, no matter who is shooting them, but it would really suck to have an exchange with someone and I'm empty at 10 while he's got several more at his disposal. I dunno. :notsure:

Sure I have but only at the threat of losing my job.

The 2 places that I have come close to being assaulted have been 1st the Cofax area of Denver and 2nd Oakland. In both cases I was required to go to some technical computer training by my employer. I witnesses a drive by shooting in Cofax across the street. In Oakland I was confronted by 2 punks. Fortunately something spooked the punks and they took off running. To this day I have no idea why.

I was in San Francisco during the earthquake and was stupid enough to walk under the BART tracks next to the La Quinta Inn San Fran Airport North where I was staying. On my way back I heard some men talking under the bridge about how they were going to mug me. I ran up the hill and jumped the fence over the BART tracks thinking that I'll take my chance with the power being out. As I climbed down the other side I heard them say "he's coming, he's coming". I made it back to the hotel in one piece.

Now I carry and feel like I have a chance to protect myself. I don't get the feeling when visiting relatives in California.

As mentioned above, you also carry ammo, in a magazine or speed loader.

Oh i get it lol so you carry a unloaded gun on a holster with your magazine on the same holster ready to load? I was thinking what the hell would you carry a unloaded gun for thats useless! Just thought that the gun and ammo cant be in reach of each other or something to that effect, like here in Hawaii if you have a gun in your car the bullets have to be in the trunk or vise versa:eek:
