After driving a beat up K5 with a 465 trans, I love the Tacoma 5 speed. Hydraulic, better gear spacing, overdrive...

I prefer the MT in trucks and AT in cars.

It would be cool if you can have both in one. Manual when you are off road and with a push of a button it shifts in to auto for when you are stuck in the 405 for an hour in stop and go traffic when your max speed is 5miles and hour. Yes that would be bad ass.

In anything else except the gen II taco, Standard. I have the 6-speed and it's like driving a %*^%'n dump truck; unpredictable and clunky. Drove my fathers stick '98 tacoma from Augusta, ME to Port Charlotte, FL and had zero issues...was ready to drive it back to Maine.

Depends on what I am driving... Truck, suv, family sedan automatic all day long. Anything sporty has to have a manual trans though.

You've nailed it. My friend has the identical truck with a cap...he consistantly gets 3 mpg more than I do consistantly, and I'm running premium. I shift at 2K rpms and run about 2200 at highway and the best I've ever done is 20mpg with stock tires. Automatic is unfortunatly the way to go with this this truck :( Driven a standard tranmission on back roads since the ripe age of 13, and this transmission sucks...I've driven dump and wheeler trucks that shift better. It's obvious Toyota doesn't want to make the manual anymore just like the all of the domestic manufacturers.
