Sooo much fun!!!

 

just wanted to thank all you medics for all you do.

I've been an ER nurse for 7 years and appreciate all the local medics and try to help out whenever i can.

 

You realize we just see our work as a series of coffee breaks interspersed with patient care every once in a while?

yes i do. but i wtill appreciate what you guys do when you actually do it. we had a 5 month old yesterday at work brought in by medics that didnt make it. thats tough to go into a house to find that. they did a great job, everything they could do, handled with class and dignity.

 

Another day in paradise man. I have yet to regret a call. Shit is bad, I'm show up to make things better. If I can't, then at the very least I do my damnedest to make sure they don't get any worse.

Some just don't come back from the bright light though.

5 month old though. Damn, that's tough.

 

I dunno. I kind of made my job into a X-games interspersed with calls.

Gurney-luge down the hills.

"baseball" with a cardboard leg splint folded into a bat, a bunch of paper towels wrapped with some gloves and taped into the ball, strike zone taped to the ambulance.

You can also "joust" with the splints if you fold/roll them properly.

Ambulance "gym." Dips off the bumper, pullups on the oh-shit bar, curls with the gurney pulled almost all the way out...

"Code 3 disco" - quiet parking lot corner, lights on, FM radio blaring. Best at night with a female partner!

I'm sure there's more but it's been 6 years.

 

I like the idea of the gurney luge. I might have to incorporate that into our system.

Who has written the longest narrative? Mine is 650 words for a cardiac refusal

 

I have no clue how long mine are. Never counted before. I know I did a good 2 pages on a vehicle rollover once.

 

I guess thats a good point. We use laptops, that when done writing does a spell check and shows the total words.

 

Yeah we're getting E-PCRs here in the next month, but the software is all point and click. Very little writing down on them nowadays.

 

I hate our e-pcrs with a passion.

Thanks. Didactic part of medic school. We use the Brady books. Anybody got the test bank!?!? Haahaa

 

Ours is not that bad. But really needs to be updated. And soon

 

Here's my advice, as I took the test 2 months ago.

- BLS always before ALS
- A,B,C. In that order. ALWAYS
- Don't over think the question. Figure out what is going on and systematically work through it. If their BP is low, give fluid, etc.

Take your time and take a deep breath before you start. Your class prepaired you.
