5w-20 Synthetic?

i need to change my oil. Advanced Auto has a $29 deal on a 5qt. Mobile1 with a matching filter. They are out of 5w-30, they have a ton of 5w-20. is this OK? i can get 5w30 and its $15 more for Penzoil or Catrol

What does you manuel say you should use? Use it! Mine says 0W20 and 0W20 containers say it can be used where it calls for 5W20.

 

5-20 will be fine.

 

Try Walmart for 5w-30 castrol synthetic. Just bought a 5 qt jug for $26

 

I bought 3 of those jugs at walmart.

 

i hear some guys running 0w-20, is that just for 4 bangers?

I'm using 5w-20 as of the last oil change. I noticed a reduction of the annoying engine tick. I have not run a full tank of gas yet but that seems to be doing better too.

 

i've heard that all the new trucks 4 and 6 cyl are coming with 0w20 now. and with no changes with both engines throughout the model years, I think it's safe to assume both viscosities should be fine. the older 4 cyls (like mine) came with 5w20 from the factory, but ive switched to synthetic Mobil 1 0w20

 

Incorrect, only the 4 cylinder ships with synthetic and it's 0w20

 

Toyota Variable Valve Timed engines ARE dependent upon the correct viscosity to operate properly through all experienced ranges indicated in the owners manual.
Follow the owners manual.. (they don't print em' cause they hate trees!!)

 

is anyone running 0w-20 or 5w-20 in the V6 Tacoma? just looking for opinions

 

I have used 5-20 once, when the store only had it in stock. It did not create any issues. That is why I said before you will be fine.

If you chose the Tacoma it says you are good to go. If you choose the FJ cruiser it also says you are good to go. If Toyota says it is OK. No matter what anyone on this board tells you, Toyota will stand by it.

Interesting that link says the 2011 Taco uses 0w20 synthetic. Not what TOYO Care told me. They are really F'in this up

 

That link doesn't specify engine. Owner's manual says 5w-20 or 0w-20 for 4cyl and 5w-30 for 6 cyl.

 

If there is a difference per engine it does list engine such as the 4 runner. The oil is listed safe for them all, but interval of oil change is different.

 

Point is, that they are putting conventional oil in the V6 and NOT synthetic as they imply
