Homelink Install

Well it took me a little time but I finally installed the Homelink remote I got off Ebay.



Mounting plate for the PC board and switches. This was just glued in place with epoxy.




Here is the part # for the switches is used

I reused the nice rubber buttons that came with the homelink unit and carefully cut the holes. This was the hardest part. I just took my time and did it right the first time.






I used this link for wiring the new switches and just tapped into the map light wires for power.

Thats really clean. I don't see why Toyota doesn't put this in stock

 

I don't know about 09 and after...

but in my 08, there's a compartment where the compass and temp would be and you could velcro in a garage opener there and push the button from outside the compartment.

Here is a picture of the homelink transmitter I got from EBay. There is two types rolling code and Non rolling code. The rolling code transmitter will do both so that's what I got. Just two wires. Positive and a negative.

There is a few people that sell them on eBay. I just was looking for the best price.
You could just go to the wrecking yard and pull one your self but I could tell you what car it was pulled from.

My 07 has that compartment also, but the homelink allows multiple doors

 

Greetings! I am new and this is my first post. I got my 11 Tacoma about 6 weeks ago and this is my first project. With the exception of replacing a taillight that somebody busted out and left for me to find on my own. Anyway, I digress. This is very cool and I am working on mine tonight. Console is out and on the workbench, board is cut and wires are ready to go, figured I should call it a night before I made I mistake cause I was tired. Thanks for the post, this is the best I have seen.

 

Glad you like it. I think if I was to do it again I would have put two remotes in and six buttons.

 

I got a small red LED @ 3.5 volts and larger one @ 12 volts. I want to use the smaller one, what was the voltage rating on the one you used? I cant imagine it is putting 12 volts to that LED, but I could be wrong.

 

What I did was measure the voltage coming off of the original led and from what I remember it was about 3 volts.

 

I'm looking to do the same thing except using the homelink out of a 4runner. It looks like with a little modification, it would be a remove and replace deal...even down to using the existing plug. Anyone brave enough to try it out?

Where I got the idea from:
Disregard the sunroof switch, you can get the console without a sunroof switch unless you wanted to use it for something else (winch?)

 

Good to know that Toyota is paying attention to what the Toyota owners are wanting.

 

How did you cut the holes?

 

I used the home link remote holes as a template. Sand the back side of the home link remote cover flat. This makes a perfect template. Then tape it into place, mark holes with a scribe. Then carefully with a dremel tool cut the new holes in the toyota part. I would say this is the hardest part because this is the part that everyone is going to see and you only really get one shot at it. There is more pictures of the process in my profile.

By the way my home link install is still working great!
