Finally bought all supplies, now time for the install!

Amp placement. I forgot to add speed wire I got from Best Buy into the final price. $34 bucks. I probably could have gotten it cheaper somewhere else, but I was ready to start work.

Yea, I got real lucky I guess. I did get the same question you got and she was none to happy.

 

alot of people will agree that paper cones are quite good, actually, but they need to be stiffer than just paper, apparently you'll get the most "natural" sound from a paper cone

I wasn't trying to "sell you" anything, just looking out for a fellow tacoma owner who asked for advice on pricing. If you're trying to call me out though; my speaker rings are $12- cheaper, include 2-3 day shipping in my pricing and also include the tweeter adapters (so actually much cheaper).

 

All I was saying is that when you rip a competitor while distorting the facts it's kinda lame.

********* does a great job of Internet marketing and puts out a wealth of instructional videos. This was the main reason I went with them. I know I could have gotten Image Dynamic speakers cheaper on Amazon, and it seems you can beat their prices on mounts......but I was getting tired of all the separate shipping with separate orders. Convenience is a factor that doesn't always show up in the pocketbook, but is worth the extra scratch IMO.....

 

Paper is very very good but not all paper cones are created equal. (I think you may have been trying to say that).

I have some Peerless XXLS 12" subs in my home that are some of the best subwoofers I've ever heard and they are paper cones.

 

Sometimes you get lucky, or they dont care. Mine wont help, but has never asked me what stuff costs in anger or surprise. Only in a "thats a good deal" sort of thing.

You have a pretty good idea on what I spend on car audio, and bikes arent cheap either. Actual conversation yesterday

Me: "I am going to be home late today"
Her: Why?
Me: I am going to meet someone tonight
Her: That means you are buying or selling something. Which is it?
Me: Buying
her: Audio or bike parts?
Me: Bike
Her: Crap, this gets expensive. What is it, and how much?
Me: Seatpost.
(note that I did not mention price...)
Her: Oh, Ok. Those arent too expensive. See you when you get home.

She doesnt know what Thomson posts cost, but at this point doesnt even question it if I am not talking frame, fork, or wheels. She did shoot down my request for a DH bike and a Ducati this morning though. Cant win em all...

 

I forgot to mention to be very careful when putting the head unit in. If you look real close you can see where I gouged the trim on the right next to the factory time display. I also got the trim a bit below the AC controls. Nothing major, but with only 1000 miles on the truck it pisses me off. I had to get my wife to assist me in pulling the old unit and placing the new one (that she wired).

 

That's all part of the strategy.

Well my problem is that you didn't read (selectively quoted) my post. That's a problem because many folks (like me) just skim some of the threads looking for advice on where, what, and what price to buy at. Especially when someone associated with car audio is talking to someone like me who is not well versed on the subject. Sorry to say, but your last retort can only be attributed to laziness or dishonesty.

So the prices are close to the same only if you don't tack on more for shipping. You don't mention paying any sales tax, so that's a bonus because ********* is tacking on $14.00 to stay legal.

By the way, I'm not a fan of the excise tax as long as our income is taxed. Excise tax was supposed to be dissolved with the passage of the 16th amendment, but that's another long thread.

Once again, I'm not trying to kill your business. I'm sure there are folks that will want to go to you and save $3.87 only if they buy a bundle without the mounting gear. But I went with what I thought would be in my best interest (convenience in all supplies in one order).

My post in first retort to you (and the ones in succession) were reactionary. Sorry if any of that offended you. This however could have been prevented by you simply saying....."oops, my bad, didn't read the whole post"........because when you don't, it comes off as a shot across the bow.

Can you list what you bought for your 6 channel amp wiring cause I have a 5 channel amp that I will be installing and am not sure what to buy (wire size, RCA's, Speaker Wire, etc). Also I'm not sure if I should install a capacitor, what's your thought? I have a Tacoma Access cab so I'm thinking 11.5 RCA's will be long enough but not sure. Any advice would be much appreciated! Sorry one last question do you think Amazon is the best plAce to buy the amp kit? Thanks.

 

Knu Konceptz (available on Amazon I believe) is a pretty good value.

For the amp kit - You will need to get the appropriate gauge wire, probably 4ga. Get OFC wire if you can, instead of CCA.

The amp kit should come with:
Power wire
Ground wire
Remote turn on wire
Fuse holder
Fuse

Some have RCA's, others dont.
Some have distro blocks.
Some have speaker wire

The number or channels for the RCA cable will depend on how you plan on wiring the amp. Are you running 5 channels off it, or just 3? If running 5, you will need 3 sets of RCA cables - Front L/R, Rear L/R, and sub. Some amps will have 5 inputs (sub in mono) some will have 6 inputs (sub L/R that is summed by the amp for a mono output, or stereo output)

Basically read the amp manual, see what it says to do for 5 or 3 channel operation, and go from there.

As to length, this is very install dependent. Your best bet is to figure out how you will be running the RCA cables, and use a string. Then take the string out and measure it.
