The Tacoma is a windy truck

Anybody notice that when you open your drivers side window your truck becomes a wind tunnel?

I used to drive my Chevy Blazer daily 65mph+, and the wind never actually blew into my face. Sure It made a lot of noise but the wind would stay outside. My Tacoma on the other hand, blows the wind directly in. Even with opening another window to allow cross ventilation, it only makes it slightly better.

Just a result of the design I guess?

 

Crack the back window as well and the wind will go in the front and straight out theback.

Yes I was so surprised jandrews. I had to make a thread to see if anybody else has ever opened a window. I doubted it though.

 

that's a tempting sig. . . . and i don't know OP, get some of those rain guards, it's bound to help some.

 

Like the others said, on the DC roll down the front and crack the back about 2", works great. Seems to me all newer cars have terrible windows down manners. In the '71 Camaro I used to have you could cruise at 65mph, windows down and carry on a conversation at normal levels. No buffeting or gale force winds or anything. Cars used to be designed based on what looked aerodynamic, not what actually was aerodynamic and I think that's got something to do with it.

 

also OP, i now see you have a double cab. so do i, and it's not that bad IMO. i had a 4 door cherokee before my taco and i'd say its the same. and note you, if it's above 60 degrees outside my windows are down. it's instinct for me to hop in and push all four buttons down and just go about my business at only a moderately windy amount. that's 70+mph included.

I think about this quite often. Some days i still drive my old 88 pickup, and rolled down, its awesome, no wind in my face even on the freeway. get back in the Taco and after the same trip on the freeway i look like someone attacked me with a hair drier

FWIW, yes, I too experience wind once the windows are rolled down on the interstate. I'll let you know how the warranty claim turns out.

 

In channel rain guards / window visors.

 

Maybe older vehicles are not as aerodynamic- eg. the wind is pushed away from the windshield in a wave and does not penetrate the side windows as much?
