Hey there, saw this thread and thought I would introduce myself. Just picked up my Tacoma a couple of weeks ago and have been looking at TW to get ideas on how to mod.

Went to high country 4x4 and talked tires for about an hour with a side that works there. He got a sick 1st gen with 4" lift with 34" toyo MTs. Detroit lockers front and rear. 4.88 gears and pretty much all the armor you can think of underneath. I'll get a pic tomorrow. He said the mtrs are best for off road. But if it's on your daily driver your going to wear them out really fast. Personally I like them more. He suggested duratracs for my use. 85% daily drive and still really well off road. Also 180 bucks cheaper. Duratracs being an A/t last longer for highway driving. But something about the MTRs is still getting my attention. I had to put 500 down for them to order the tires of my pick mtr or dura, in order to have them there by tomorrow afternoon. So I have till 9 am to decide.

The guys with duratracs, are you impressed? Would you get them again on your next tire purchas? Same with MTR guys. I just want to get the best for my money if I'm spending 1150$.

High country 4x4 had the best prices by far and said they will do better at pricing than any other store. They were about 15 bucks a tire cheaper than discount and 4 wheel parts.

True but it also means they are quiet on the road and do better off the road and in gravle and loose dirt sand what not but of a day to day i would look into the toyos or some dick ceepeks frc II

i worked at fld01, cod2 and cod7 i was just a apprentess tech i quit there cuz they told me i had a bad attitude and to go home for 3 days when i didnt get like any hours any way so i said to eat it and got a job at off road dynamics in foco

sipping doesnt cause tires to ware out quicker but it does cause them to tear chunks out if you wheel it i wouldnt sugguest doing it for a wheeler or a hevy truck

take that quote to discount and they will have to beat it!! save you some money man also i wouldnt do the durratracs just beacuse i have seen so many people ware them out really fast and have problems with them but there is people that love them and have good luck thats how all tires are one person might have really awesome luck with a set and then some one else might hate them and have awfull luck with them its all just trial and error man if you like the mtrs do it up but just remember it is a mud terrian and it will ware out quicker than the durratracs

How much longer do you think duratracs would last?

Long enough to make a difference...

s10nick: That's the part that sucks about being a part timer. I was an Assistant Manager for 3.5 years, decided that I hated it and stepped down to go back to school. The only part that sucked was the hours. I made myself useful by doing the adjustments at 24. In 2009, cod 24 brought in $30,000 in adjustments and when I took it over for 2010, I brought in $59,000 to cod 24. The manager there always gave me hours because I brought him lots of good money. The past November, I had to go on light duty because I damaged some nerves in my hand (been building towards a problem since 2008) and went of full disability in February. When my hand healed (mostly), my manager and I agreed that it wouldn't be good for either of us if I came back to work and I left on good terms. If I had gone back, my hand would have gotten worse and that just wasn't a good decision.

    Back on...off topic.

Anyone have any ideas on how to mount an ipad into a regular cab tacoma? I'm trying to come up with something that uses the ipad in front of the factory radio, so I don't lose a lot of interior space...

what he said ^^ and o right on i did a lot off ajustments too i was the best tech there if there was any big wheels or nice wheels i had to do them cuz they knew i could split weights so the tire would 0 out and mount the tires with out scrathcing the wheels i did a set of 305/25/28s in fl it was the biggest pain in the ass never did like the lopros and i pretty much ran the back room there too if any one had issues they would come ask me before the managers but yeah nothing is worth getting hurt over man you made the right desicion

What size rim are you going to run? I am on 16's and have a load range E tire Duratrac which is a bit stiffer. If you are going to run a 17" rim from what NYCO says you can only get load range D. Don't get me wrong the Duratrac's are great and will last me a long time but I do not have a daily commute (work from home) so I could have made an MTR last a long time too. So if you think you will be at least 75% on road I would go Duratrac.

I do love how quiet they are.

id get duratracs again. ive got them on 16s and have been impressed by them, and ive been off roading with them quite a few times, im no mall crawler ;). Also they are a really good snow tire, so thats a plus living in Co. Super quiet on the road compared to mud tires, and will last longer. no brainer for me
